Harold Young (director)
Harold Young (November 13, 1897 – March 3, 1972) was an American film director, editor, and occasional actor. Career Young was born in 1897 in Portland, Oregon, where he was raised and attended high school. After graduating from Columbia University, Young began his career as a film editor from 1923-1934, working first on a series of George O'Hara (actor), George O'Hara short subjects under the director Malcolm St. Clair (filmmaker), Malcolm St. Clair. Young's best-known early directorial assignment is probably ''The Scarlet Pimpernel (1934 film), The Scarlet Pimpernel'' (1934), starring Leslie Howard (actor), Leslie Howard and Merle Oberon, one example of his occasional work in Britain. Biography He was born in Santa Ana, California, and died in Hollywood, California, from a heart attack. Boteler graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After he graduated, he stayed there as a director until he joined the Army in World War I. For three years in the mid-1920s, he worked for Douglas MacLean's film company as both actor and writer. John Nicholas "Dick" Foran (June 18, 1910 – August 10, 1979) was an American actor, known for his performances in Western musicals and for playing supporting roles in dramatic pictures. Early years Foran was born in Flemington, New Jersey, the first of five sons to Arthur F. Foran and Elizabeth Foran. His father was a Republican member of the New Jersey Senate, as was Dick Foran's younger brother, Walter E. Foran. He attended Mercersburg Academy, where he competed on the track team under Scots-American athletics coach Jimmy Curran.
