picture info	Frederick William Hope Frederick William Hope (3 January 1797 – 15 April 1862) was an English clergyman, naturalist, collector, and entomologist, who founded a professorship at the University of Oxford to which he gave his entire collections of insects in 1849 (now known as the Hope Collection or in expanded form the Hope Entomological Collections, with around 3.5 million specimens). He described numerous species and was a founder of the Entomological Society of London in 1833 along with John Obadiah Westwood. 	Hexarthrius Melchioritis ''Hexarthrius melchioritis'' is a species of beetle, which belongs to the family of stag beetles (Lucanidae) in the group Scarabaeoidea. It was first described in 1954 by French entomologist, Eugène Séguy. The species is endemic to northern Myanmar. Appearance A large (males 35–71 millimeter), glossy, brown-black stag beetle. The male's jaws are long, quite straight, with an inward-facing tooth just outside the middle, with scattered, small teeth along the inner edge, pointed at the tip. This species is slimmer in build than most other Hexarthrius species. The antennas are quite thin, with a small, six-joint fan. The pronotum is rectangular, much wider than long. The female is completely black, much smaller than the male, with no strikingly enlarged jaws. Life cycle The larvae develop in rotten tree trunks. 	Hexarthrius Mandibularis ''Hexarthrius mandibularis'' is one of the world's largest stag beetle. It belongs to the tribe Lucanini, in the family Lucanidae. This beetle has a dull, dark, brick reddish body. Both the legs and antennae are blackish. The most notable characteristic are the large, antler-like mandibles. These have small teeth running down the inside edge, with one large, forward-pointing pair located approximately a third of the way down from the tips. The tips are forked inward somewhat. During the larval stage, ''Hexarthrius mandibularis'' lives in rotten hardwood, feeding on it. Later, during the imago stage, it consumes tree juice. 	Hexarthrius Melchioritis ''Hexarthrius melchioritis'' is a species of beetle, which belongs to the family of stag beetles (Lucanidae) in the group Scarabaeoidea. It was first described in 1954 by French entomologist, Eugène Séguy. The species is endemic to northern Myanmar. Appearance A large (males 35–71 millimeter), glossy, brown-black stag beetle. The male's jaws are long, quite straight, with an inward-facing tooth just outside the middle, with scattered, small teeth along the inner edge, pointed at the tip. This species is slimmer in build than most other Hexarthrius species. The antennas are quite thin, with a small, six-joint fan. The pronotum is rectangular, much wider than long. The female is completely black, much smaller than the male, with no strikingly enlarged jaws. Life cycle The larvae develop in rotten tree trunks. 	Hexarthrius Mandibularis ''Hexarthrius mandibularis'' is one of the world's largest stag beetle. It belongs to the tribe Lucanini, in the family Lucanidae. This beetle has a dull, dark, brick reddish body. Both the legs and antennae are blackish. The most notable characteristic are the large, antler-like mandibles. These have small teeth running down the inside edge, with one large, forward-pointing pair located approximately a third of the way down from the tips. The tips are forked inward somewhat. During the larval stage, ''Hexarthrius mandibularis'' lives in rotten hardwood, feeding on it. Later, during the imago stage, it consumes tree juice.
