''Hex; Or Printing in the Infernal Method'' is the fourth full-length studio album by American drone doom band Earth. Background Marking a new direction the band would follow in years to come, ''Hex'' stands in stark contrast to Earth's previous works. While retaining the extremely heavy doom/drone metal song structure of epic riffs over simple repetitive drum beats, the guitar was inflected with country influences that favored a cleaner reverb-heavy tone layered with acoustic instruments over the band's previous predilection for distortion. The press release cited diverse influences such as Ennio Morricone, Billy Gibbons, Neil Young's soundtrack to the movie ''Dead Man'', country musicians Duane Eddy, Merle Haggard, and Roy Buchanan. Earth is an American experimental rock band based in Olympia, Washington, formed in 1989 and led by the guitarist Dylan Carlson (musician), Dylan Carlson. Roy Buchanan
Leroy "Roy" Buchanan (September 23, 1939 – August 14, 1988) was an American guitarist and blues musician. A pioneer of the Telecaster sound, Buchanan worked as a sideman and as a solo artist, with two gold albums early in his career and two later solo albums that made it to the ''Billboard'' chart. Adrienne Davies
Adrienne Davies is the current drummer and percussionist of the drone metal band Earth. Davies is credited as drummer on several of Earth's albums. They range from '' Living in the Gleam of an Unsheathed Sword'' (2005) and for drums, percussion, and wind chimes on ''Hex (Or Printing in the Infernal Method)'' (2005). She has since played on its album '' Hibernaculum'', as well as ''Altar''—the Sunn O))) and Boris collaboration—which also features other members of Earth. She was also the drummer for their most recent album, '' Full Upon Her Burning Lips'', released in 2019. Davies has stated that she was a fan of Earth before her debut. Her drumming style was heavily influenced by Dylan Carlson's pioneering drone metal sound with Michael McDaniel as the band's drummer in the 1990s. Dylan Carlson (born March 12, 1968) is an American musician, best known as the guitarist and founder of the drone metal/ post-rock group Earth, and the main contributor to his solo project Drcarlsonalbion. Early life and education Carlson was born in Seattle, Washington, United States. His father worked for the Department of Defense, and, as a result, as a child he moved quite frequently, living in Philadelphia, Texas, New Mexico, and New Jersey, before coming back to live in Washington state. Career He had first become interested in being a rock musician at age 15, inspired by bands such as Molly Hatchet, AC/DC, and Black Sabbath. He also cites the Melvins, and composers La Monte Young and Terry Riley as major influences on his music. It was in Olympia, Washington that he met Slim Moon, Greg Babior, Dave Harwell and Joe Preston, with whom he would later form Earth. ''The Marriage of Heaven and Hell'' is a book by the English poet and printmaker William Blake. It is a series of texts written in imitation of biblical prophecy but expressing Blake's own intensely personal Romantic and revolutionary beliefs. Like his other books, it was published as printed sheets from etched plates containing prose, poetry, and illustrations. The plates were then coloured by Blake and his wife Catherine. It opens with an introduction of a short poem entitled "Rintrah roars and shakes his fires in the burden'd air". William Blake claims that John Milton was a true poet and his epic poem ''Paradise Lost'' was "of the Devil's party without knowing it". He also claims that Milton's Satan was truly his Messiah.
