Andreas Heusler
Andreas Heusler (10 August 1865 – 28 February 1940) was a Swiss philologist who specialized in Germanic studies. He was a Professor of Germanic Philology at the University of Berlin and a renowned authority on early Germanic literature. Life Andreas Heusler was born into a prestigious family in Basel, the third in a line of fathers and sons bearing the same name (his father was Andreas Heusler (1834–1921) and his grandfather Andreas Heusler (1802–1868); both worked in law and government). Andreas enjoyed a stellar career as a student in Basel, Freiburg im Breisgau, and Berlin, completing his studies in 1887 in Freiburg with the doctoral thesis "Beitrag zum Consonantismus der Mundart von Baselstadt". In 1890, when Heusler was 25 years old, he began lecturing in Berlin and was a professor of Nordic textual studies there from 1894 to 1913. Carl Ludwig David Friedrich Heusler (1 February 1866, Dillenburg – 25 October 1947) was a German mining engineer and chemist. He discovered a special group of intermetallics now known as Heusler phases, which are ferromagnetic though the constituting elements are not ferromagnetic. Biography He was born as son of Conrad Heusler the owner of the IsabellenhĂĽtte Dillenburg, a non-ferrous metal works. He studied at the University of Bonn and University of Berlin and was awarded with his Ph.D in 1887 in Berlin. After working at the University of Göttingen he did his habilitation in Berlin 1894. Heusler Compound
Heusler compounds are magnetic intermetallics with face-centered cubic crystal structure and a composition of XYZ (half-Heuslers) or X2YZ (full-Heuslers), where X and Y are transition metals and Z is in the p-block. The term derives from the name of Germany, German mining engineer and chemist Friedrich Heusler, who studied such a compound (Cu2MnAl) in 1903. Many of these compounds exhibit properties relevant to spintronics, such as magnetoresistance, variations of the Hall effect, ferromagnetism, ferro-, antiferromagnetism, antiferro-, and ferrimagnetism, Half-metal, half- and semimetallicity, semiconductivity with spin filter ability, superconductivity, Topological insulator, topological band structure and are actively studied as Thermoelectric materials.
