Christian Heurich
Christian Heurich (September 12, 1842 – March 7, 1945) was an American brewer and real estate investor in Washington D.C. His company, Christian Heurich Brewing Company, established in 1872, was the largest brewery in Washington, D.C. At one point, Heurich owned more land than any other landowner in Washington, D.C., except the federal government. Winfried Heurich
Winfried Heurich (born 13 February 1940) is a German organist and composer. Life Born in Neuhof, Hesse, Heurich was from 1962 to 2000 the church musician of Liebfrauen in Frankfurt am Main. In 1973 he composed songs titled ''Ganz nah ist dein Wort'', with new texts by Huub Oosterhuis and Lothar Zenetti. From 1978, he composed many songs on lyrics by Eugen Eckert. From 1974 to 2000 he led the ''Arbeitskreis Kirchenmusik und Jugendseelsorge im Bistum Limburg''. He lectured at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt from 1986. His song " Der Herr wird dich mit seiner Güte segnen", to a text by Helmut Schlegel, was the most successful entry to an international competition of the genre Neues Geistliches Lied in 1983 in Rome. He also composed the official song of the ''Katholikentag'' 1998 in Mainz, "Schnee schmilzt" (Snow melts) on a text by Eckert. Christian Heurich Brewing Company
The Christian Heurich Brewing Company was a Washington, D.C., brewery founded in 1872 and incorporated by Christian Heurich in 1890. First located near Dupont Circle on 20th Street NW, it expanded to a much larger site in Foggy Bottom in 1895 after a major fire. The new brewery was located along the Potomac River at 26th Street and D Street NW, where the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts now stands. The Heurich brewery was the largest in Washington's history, capable of producing 500,000 barrels of beer a year and 250 tons of ice daily. The Christian Heurich Brewing Co. closed in 1956, "because of a decline in sales and because of the knowledge that the government would seek to acquire the site of the brewery for the approaches to the new Theodore Roosevelt Bridge." For five years, Arena Stage staged productions in the former brewery, which it nicknamed "The Old Vat." The brewery and all of its buildings were torn down in 1961. Heurich House Museum
Heurich House Museum, also known as the Christian Heurich Mansion or Brewmaster's Castle, is a Gilded Age mansion in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington D.C. History The house was built in 1892-94 by architect John Granville Meyers for German immigrant and brewer Christian Heurich. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The first two floors of the house are preserved and include most of the original furnishings. In 1956, Heurich's widow deeded the house to the Historical Society of Washington, D.C. In 2003, the Historical Society moved out of the house, putting the house on the open market. Amid rumors of plans to repurpose the house, it was purchased by the Heurich House Foundation and converted into a historic house museum. The museum is open to the public. Heurich Mausoleum
Heurich Mausoleum is a public artwork by sculptor Louis Amateis, located at Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington, D.C., United States. "Heurich Mausoleum" was originally surveyed as part of the Smithsonian's Save Outdoor Sculpture! survey in May 1993. This sculpture is the final resting place of members of the Heurich family. Description Four caryatids are attached to each corner of a granite mausoleum (). They each have wings and stand with their hands clasped in front of their waist with their eyes closed. The placement has their heads touching the mausoleum's roof and their bare feet resting on a low ledge. Two of the figures have braided hair, one has hair that hangs down over her shoulders, and the final figure has a cape pulled around her head. The back of the mausoleum has a stained glass window showing an angel holding a scroll that is inscribed with the word Peace. The caryatids are signed: :L.
