Juraj Herz
Juraj Herz (4 September 1934 – 8 April 2018) was a Czechoslovak film director, actor, and scene designer, associated with the Czechoslovak New Wave movement of the 1960s. He is best known for his 1969 horror/black comedy ''The Cremator'', often cited as one of the best Czechoslovak films of all time, though many of his other films achieved cult status. He directed for both film and television, and in the latter capacity he directed episodes of a French-Czech television series based on George Simenon's Maigret novels. Early life and education Herz was born in 1934 in Kežmarok, in modern-day Slovakia, to Jewish parents. He was a Holocaust survivor, having been imprisoned at the Ravensbrück concentration camp during his childhood. Winfried Herz
Winfried Herz (11 May 1929 – 9 December 2022) was a German football player. He started his career with BSG KWU Erfurt (later renamed into Turbine and finally Rot-Weiß Erfurt) in East Germany, at the time one of the best sides in the country. In 1951 Herz fled into West Germany for political reasons, where he joined Eintracht Braunschweig. Herz went on to play 10 seasons for Eintracht Braunschweig, until he retired in 1961. Herz also represented East Germany several times during the early 1950s. However, since those games were played before the East German Football Association became a FIFA member in 1952, they are not considered official internationals. He died on 9 December 2022, at there age of 93. Naftali Herz Imber ( he, , yi, ; December 27, 1856 – October 8, 1909) was a Jewish Hebrew-language poet, most notable for writing "Hatikvah", the poem that became the basis for the Israeli national anthem. Biography Naftali Herz Imber was born in Złoczów (now Zolochiv, Ukraine), a city in Galicia, which then was part of the Austrian Empire. His parents were Joshua Heschel Schorr and Hodel Imber, who followed a strictly Orthodox lifestyle. He began writing poetry at the age of 10 and several years later received an award from Emperor Franz Joseph for a poem on the centenary of Bukovina's joining to the Austrian Empire. His brother, Shmaryahu Imber, also became a writer and a local teacher, and his son, Naftali's nephew Shmuel Yankev, became a Yiddish language poet. With the director and actor Lloyd Kaufman, the two are the co-founders of Troma Entertainment, the world's longest running independent film studio, known for their comedic horror films, including the cult favorite '' Toxic Avenger'' series and ''Tromeo and Juliet''. Adam Herz (born September 10, 1972) is an American screenwriter and producer. He founded the production company Terra Firma Films in 2003 with a first-look deal at Universal Studios. Herz was born in New York City and raised in East Grand Rapids. He is the older of two boys, and his father, David, is a brain surgeon in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It was with his mother's (Myrna) Super 8 camera that he made his first movies while a teen. Herz graduated from East Grand Rapids High School (see also East Grand Rapids Public Schools). He moved to Los Angeles after graduation from the University of Michigan in 1996. He held a number of production assistant jobs while working on writing spec scripts.
