Hertogin Hedwigepolder
The Hertogin Hedwigepolder (often shortened to Hedwigepolder) was a polder between 1907 and 2022 in Zeeland, Netherlands. A small part of the polder is on Belgian territory. In 2005 it was decided to depolder the Hedwigepolder in order to restore the natural quality in the Western Scheldt. This decision was controversial in Zeeland and Dutch politics, which delayed it. In October 2022, a start was made with the depoldering. Poldering The area was already diked before the Eighty Years' War. During this war, Dutch soldiers in 1584 for strategic reasons (inundation) breached the last intact dikes, after which Saeftinghe disappeared under water. In the 17th century, diking started again, and in 1907 the Hedwigepolder was the last area in the eastern corner of Zeelandic Flanders that was conquered from the sea. Polder
A polder () is a low-lying tract of land that forms an artificial hydrological entity, enclosed by embankments known as dikes. The three types of polder are: # Land reclaimed from a body of water, such as a lake or the seabed # Flood plains separated from the sea or river by a dike # Marshes separated from the surrounding water by a dike and subsequently drained; these are also known as ''koogs'', especially in Germany The ground level in drained marshes subsides over time. All polders will eventually be below the surrounding water level some or all of the time. Water enters the low-lying polder through infiltration and water pressure of groundwater, or rainfall, or transport of water by rivers and canals. First Rutte Cabinet
The first Rutte cabinet, also called the Rutte–Verhagen cabinet was the executive branch of the Government of the Netherlands from 14 October 2010 until 5 November 2012. The cabinet was formed by the conservative-liberal People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) and the Christian-democratic Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) after the election of 2010. The cabinet was a right-wing coalition and had a minority in the House of Representatives but had confidence and supply from the Party for Freedom (PVV) for a slim majority with Liberal Leader Mark Rutte serving as Prime Minister. The Council of State ( nl, ) is a constitutionally established advisory body in the Netherlands to the government and States General that officially consists of members of the royal family and Crown-appointed members generally having political, commercial, diplomatic or military experience. In the Netherlands, a water board, water council or water authority ( nl, waterschap or heemraadschap) is a regional governing body solely charged with the management of surface water in the environment. Water boards are independent of administrative governing bodies like provinces and municipalities. The Council of Ministers ( nl, Ministerraad) is the executive council of Dutch Government, formed by all the ministers including the deputy prime ministers. This executive council initiates laws and policy. The Council of Ministers is distinct from the cabinet which also includes state secretaries. State secretaries do not attend the Council of Ministers unless they are requested to do so and they do not have voting rights.
