Hertford Street is a street in central London's Mayfair district. It runs between a junction with Park Lane and Old Park Lane at its western end, to Curzon Street at its north-east end. In 1771, Anne, Duchess of Cumberland and Strathearn married Prince Henry, Duke of Cumberland and Strathearn in Hertford Street on 2 October 1771. In 1880, the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers was established at 38 Hertford Street, as the Society of Painter-Etchers, for the promotion of original etching as a creative art form. The Royal Thai Embassy in London ( th, สถานเอกอัครราชทูตไทย ณ กรุงลอนดอน) is the diplomatic mission of Thailand in the United Kingdom, located at Queen's Gate. Thailand also maintains an Office of the Air Attaché at 2 Victoria Road, South Kensington, an Office of Commercial Attaché at 11 Hertford Street, Mayfair and an Office of Educational Attaché at 28 Prince's Gate, South Kensington. Capability Brown
Lancelot Brown (born c. 1715–16, baptised 30 August 1716 – 6 February 1783), more commonly known as Capability Brown, was an English gardener and landscape architect, who remains the most famous figure in the history of the English landscape garden style. He is remembered as "the last of the great English 18th-century artists to be accorded his due" and "England's greatest gardener". Unlike other architects including William Kent, he was a hands-on gardener and provided his clients with a full turnkey service, designing the gardens and park, and then managing their landscaping and planting. He is most famous for the landscaped parks of English country houses, many of which have survived reasonably intact. However, he also included in his plans "pleasure gardens" with flower gardens and the new shrubberies, usually placed where they would not obstruct the views across the park of and from the main facades of the house. Charles Richard Vaughan
Sir Charles Richard Vaughan, GCH, PC, (20 December 1774 – 15 June 1849) was a British diplomat. Vaughan born at Leicester, the son of James Vaughan, a physician, and his wife, Hester ''née'' Smalley. His brothers were Sir Henry Halford (Vaughan), who dropped the family name; Sir John Vaughan (1769–1839), a Baron of the Exchequer; and Peter Vaughan, Warden of Merton College, Oxford. Vaughan was educated at Rugby School, where he entered on 22 January 1788, and at Merton College, Oxford, matriculating on 26 October 1791. He graduated BA in 1796 and MA in 1798, in which year he was also elected a fellow of All Souls College, Oxford. He intended to follow the medical profession, attending lectures in both Edinburgh and London, and took the degree of MB in 1800. James Joseph Sylvester
James Joseph Sylvester (3 September 1814 – 15 March 1897) was an English mathematician. He made fundamental contributions to matrix theory, invariant theory, number theory, partition theory, and combinatorics. He played a leadership role in American mathematics in the later half of the 19th century as a professor at the Johns Hopkins University and as founder of the ''American Journal of Mathematics''. Sir Geers Cotterell, 3rd Baronet
Sir Geers Henry Cotterell, 3rd Baronet (22 August 1834 – 17 March 1900) was a Whig politician. Early life Cotterell was the second son of Sir John Henry Cotterell (who had died before his birth and was heir apparent to Sir John Cotterell, 1st Baronet) and Hon. Pyne Jesse Trevor, daughter of Henry Trevor, 21st Baron Dacre and Pyne Crosbie. After his father's death, his mother married Granville Harcourt Vernon, MP, son of Most Rev. Edward Venables-Vernon-Harcourt and Lady Anne Leveson-Gower, in 1845. He was educated at Harrow School and Christ Church, Oxford, and succeeded to the Baronetage of Garnons on 17 February 1847, upon the death of his brother John Henry Cotterell. Career Cotterell was elected Whig MP for Herefordshire at the 1857 general election and held the seat until 1859, when he stood down. John Burgoyne
General John Burgoyne (24 February 1722 – 4 August 1792) was a British general, dramatist and politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1761 to 1792. He first saw action during the Seven Years' War when he participated in several battles, most notably during the Portugal Campaign of 1762. Burgoyne is best known for his role in the American Revolutionary War. He designed an invasion scheme and was appointed to command a force moving south from Canada to split away New England and end the rebellion. Burgoyne advanced from Canada but his slow movement allowed the Americans to concentrate their forces. Instead of coming to his aid according to the overall plan, the British Army in New York City moved south to capture Philadelphia. Burgoyne fought two small battles near Saratoga but was surrounded by American forces and, with no relief in sight, surrendered his entire army of 6,200 men on 17 October 1777. The Embassy of Qatar at 1 South Audley Street in Mayfair, London is the diplomatic mission of Qatar in the United Kingdom. The embassy is housed in a Grade II listed three storey house designed by the architect Frederick Pepys Cockerell and completed after his death by George Aitchison. The exterior of the house is richly decorated with a terracotta frieze depicting putti. Qatar also maintains a Cultural and Military Section at 21 Hertford Street, Mayfair and a Health Section at 30 Collingham Gardens, South Kensington. In 2013 there was a protest outside the embassy against the alleged mistreatment of migrant workers in Qatar.
