Herrliberg
Herrliberg is a municipality in the district of Meilen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. History There are findings dating back to the Bronze Age. In the 8th century, a village called ''Tächliswil'' was established. A hamlet called ''Wezzo'' (today ''Wetzwil'') was donated to the St. Gallen Abbey in 797. There are also a number of other hamlets, including ''Breitwil'', ''Kittenmühle'' and ''Intwil''. Herrliberg is first mentioned in 1153–1155 as ''Hardiperc''. In 1273 it was mentioned as ''Herdiperch'' and in the mid-15th Century as ''Härliberg''. Wine growing was important for centuries. In the Middle Ages, most of the land belonged to the churches of Zürich (Grossmünster and Fraumünster), but in 1412 Herrliberg was established as the place of a reeve. Meilen
Meilen is a municipality in the district of Meilen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. History Archaeological finds in Meilen date back more than 4,000 years. In January 1854 the level of lake Zürich was particularly low and the locals took the chance to reclaim some land. During this undertaking prehistoric objects from the Pfyn, Horgen and early Bronze Age cultures were unearthed providing clear evidence of early settlement. The locals also unearthed coins from Roman times (1st to 3rd century AD). One of the Roman roads connected ''Turicum'' (Zürich) with places up to ''Chur'' and passed by Meilen. Many findings were discovered during more recent road construction. Parts of Meilen were possessions of monasteries, including the monastery of ''St. Gallen'', the ones of ''Einsiedeln'' and ''Säckingen'', or the more local ''Grossmünster'' of Zürich. Erlenbach () is a municipality in the district of Meilen in the canton of Zürich in Switzerland. History Erlenbach is first mentioned in 981 as ''Liber Heremi'' though this identification is questionable. Between 1173-90 it was mentioned as ''Erlibach''. Archeological digs have shown that there were settlements in Erlenbach more than 5,000 years ago. During Roman times an important road passed through what is now Erlenbach. The Alemanni settled in this village in the 6th century. In 981 the name ''Erlibach'' was first mentioned when the monastery of Einsiedeln acquired the land. Around 1400 the city of Zürich bought the land. Two castles ''Balp'' and ''Dachsberg'' are mentioned in old writings, but there is no evidence left. Küsnacht
Küsnacht is a municipality in the district of Meilen in the canton of Zurich in Switzerland. History Küsnacht is first mentioned in 1188 as ''de Cussenacho''. Earliest findings of settlement date back to the stone age. There are also findings from the Bronze Age. During Roman times, a mansion was located on the commons. It was called ''fundus Cossiniacus'' which is probably the origin of the name of Küsnacht. In the 7th century the name was recorded as ''Chussenacho''.
