Elizabeth Herriott
Elizabeth Maude Herriott (1882 – 13 March 1936) was a New Zealand scientist and academic. She was the first woman appointed to the permanent teaching staff at Canterbury College, now the University of Canterbury. Education Herriott was born in Canterbury in 1882. Her parents were David and Elizabeth Susannah Herriott. Herriott attended Christchurch East School and Christchurch Girls' High School, where she was head prefect in 1899. She won a scholarship to attend Canterbury College, and studied botany and chemistry there from 1900 to 1905. She graduated with a B.A. in 1904 and a M.A. in 1905. Her Master's research was on the leaf anatomy of Subantarctic Islands species, and involved the study of plants brought back from an expedition in 1903 by Leonard Cockayne. Career On graduation Herriott took up teaching positions, initially at Rangi Ruru Girls' School and later at Kaikoura District High School. John Herriott
John Herriott (October 20, 1844 – September 24, 1918) was an American politician and lawyer who served as a Lieutenant Governor from Iowa. Life Born in Herriottsville, Pennsylvania, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, Herriott served in the Union Army during the American Civil War as a member of the 1st Pennsylvania Cavalry Regiment and participated in the Battles of Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. Herriott moved to Iowa, where he served leader of the Guthrie County Republican Party and as Iowa State Treasurer and then Lieutenant Governor of Iowa from 1902 until 1907, serving under Governor Albert B. Cummins. In 1901 he ran for the Republican nomination for governor of Iowa and came second to last with only 8 delegates against Cummins 860, however he won the Lieutenant Governor nomination after two ballots. Maurice Herriott
Maurice Herriott (born 8 October 1939) is a British track and field athlete who competed mainly in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He was born in Great Wyrley, South Staffordshire. Athletics career He competed for Great Britain in the 1964 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan in the 3000 metre steeple chase where he won the silver medal. He also competed in the same event at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico, but with less success.
