Hero Of The Republic Of Cuba
The honorary title Hero of the Republic of Cuba ( es, Héroe de la República de Cuba) is the highest decoration awarded by the Republic of Cuba. It is equivalent to other hero titles common in the Socialist Bloc. The decoration is physically represented with the Gold Star Medal ( es, Medalla Estrella de Oro), hanging in a gold plaque enamelled with the colors of the national flag. It was established by the Decree-Law Number 30 of 10 December 1979, and it is "awarded to Cuban and foreign citizens in recognition of extraordinary merits achieved in productive labour or in struggles for conquests and in defense of the achievements and interests of the working class, as well as for consistent practice and valuable contributions to proletarian internationalism." Leopoldo Cintra Frías
Leopoldo Cintra Frías is a Cuban military and political leader. Cintra was the former Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba. Military career He participated in the Cuban Revolution in November 1957 at the age of 16. His first actions were to sell bonds, distribute bread in a van, and transport people to the mountains. He later joined the Column 1 José Martí, which was commanded by Fidel Castro, where he remained until the end of the revolution. He accompanied Fidel Castro on his journey from the Oriente Province to Havana, in the commonly known ''Freedom Caravan''. Cintra was sent to Prague (Czechoslovakia) to study Artillery in 1960. Upon his return to Cuba, he was appointed head of the artillery and infantry units in the FAR. Sergio del Valle Jiménez (15 April 1927—15 November 2007) was a high-ranking Cuban military and government official who served as army chief of staff during the 1962 Missile Crisis and headed various cabinet ministries during the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Biography A physician by training, Sergio del Valle became a part of the movement against the government of Fulgencio Batista in the 1950s and, by 1957, was fighting in Fidel Castro's rebel army's second column under the leadership of Camilo Cienfuegos. After Castro took power, del Valle served in a number of top positions, most notably his key military post at the time of the Missile Crisis. Ramiro Valdés Menéndez (born 28 April 1932) is a Cuban politician. He became a Government Vice President in the 2009 shake-up by Raúl Castro. Biography A veteran of the Cuban Revolution, Valdés fought alongside Fidel Castro at the attack on the Moncada Barracks in 1953 and was a founding member of the 26th of July Movement. He has been a member of the Politburo of the Communist Party of Cuba since October 1965, and has held many important governmental posts, including those of Interior Minister and Vice-Prime Minister. On 31 August 2006, he was named Minister of Informatics and Communications. In 1960, he was a member of Raul Castro delegation that visited Czechoslovakia where he received intelligence training. Juan Almeida Bosque
Juan Almeida Bosque (February 17, 1927 – September 11, 2009) was a Cuban politician and one of the original commanders of the insurgent forces in the Cuban Revolution. After the rebels took power in 1959, he was a prominent figure in the Communist Party of Cuba. At the time of his death, he was a Vice-President of the Cuban Council of State and was its third ranking member. He received several decorations, and national and international awards, including the title of "Hero of the Republic of Cuba" and the Order of Máximo Gómez.
