Herning Museum Of Contemporary Art
Heart: Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, formerly Herning Kunstmuseum, was founded in Herning, Denmark, in 1976. It opened in 1977 in Angligården, an old shirt factory designed by C. F. Møller. In 2009, it reopened in new premises designed by the American architect Steven Holl. History The art museum was originally established in Aage Damgaard's Angli shirt factory. It contains works by Paul Gadegaard (who decorated the factory in the 1950s), Victor Vasarely, Piero Manzoni, Richard Mortensen, Asger Jorn and Carl-Henning Pedersen. There is also a large collection of sculptural works by Ingvar Cronhammar. On 9 September 2009, the museum opened in a new building designed by the American architect Steven Holl. Mario Merz
Mario Merz (1 January 1925 – 9 November 2003) was an Italian artist, and husband of Marisa Merz. Life Born in Milan, Merz started drawing during World War II, when he was imprisoned for his activities with the ''Giustizia e Libertà'' antifascist group. He experimented with a continuous graphic stroke–not removing his pencil point from the paper. He explored the relationship between nature and the subject, until he had his first exhibitions in the intellectually incendiary context of Turin in the 1950s, a cultural climate fed by such writers as Cesare Pavese, Elio Vittorini, and Ezra Pound. He met Marisa Merz during his studies in Turin in the 1950s. They were associated with the development of Arte Povera, and they were both influenced by each other's works. He died in Milan in 2003. Troels Wörsel
Troels Wörsel (November 10, 1950 - December 12, 2018) was a Danish painter active in Cologne and Pietrasanta. Biography Troels Wörsel was born in Aarhus, Danmark. He was self-taught and in the 1970s, became interested in pop and conceptual art. Philosophical issues such as the relationship between space and time characterised his art. In 1981, he contributed to the pioneer exhibition Rundschau Deutschland at Munich and Cologne and at the Bildwechsel at Akademie der Künste in Berlin. He represented Denmark at the fifty-Second Venice Biennale in 2007. In 1995 Wörsel was awarded the Eckersberg Medal, and in 2002 he won Carnegie Art Award first prize and in 2004 he received the Thorvaldsen Medal. He died during 2018 at Cologne, Germany. John Kørner
John Kørner (born in 1967) is a Danish artist based in Copenhagen. Kørner was born in Aarhus, Denmark. His paintings feature a mixture of figurative and abstract imagery rendered in watered-down acrylic. Some common motifs are people, animals, boats and trees. In addition to works on canvas, Korner also paints on ceramics. Kørner attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen between 1992 and 1998. Knud Hvidberg
Knud Wedel Hvidberg (27 May 1927 – 5 May 1986) was a Danish painter and sculptor. Biography Born in Holstebro in central Jutland, Hvidberg was a self-taught artist. In the early 1960s, he first painted in a Constructivist style inspired by Gunnar Aagaard Andersen and other members of the Linien II artists association. His sculptural creations were mobiles made of roof gutters, plexiglass and iron driven by electric motors with shining lights. One, developed together with William Soya, also had a sound and light component, predating later installations. His 1965 POEX exhibition combined avant-garde developments in art, poetry and drama. Hvidberg sought to give his mobiles associations with the cosmos and with ancient civilisations.
