Hernando High School is a public high school located in Brooksville, Florida. It is part of the Hernando County School District. It has been in operation since 1889, which makes it one of the oldest, continuously operating public high schools in the United States. Community Hernando High School is one of five high schools in Hernando County. Brooksville is a rural community of about 9,000 residents located 40 miles north of Tampa and 60 miles west of Orlando on Florida's Nature Coast. Curriculum The school day is composed of seven 50 minute class periods with two lunch periods (A & B) on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; and 8 43 minute class periods with two lunch periods (A & B) on Tuesday and Thursday. Brooksville is a city in western Florida and the county seat of Hernando County, Florida, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 7,719, up from 7,264 at the 2000 census. Brooksville is home to historic buildings and residences, including the homes of former Florida Governor William Sherman Jennings and football player Jerome Brown. It is part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. George Floyd (American Football)
George Floyd Jr. (born December 21, 1960) is an American former professional football player who was a defensive back for two seasons with the New York Jets of the National Football League (NFL). Over his NFL career, Floyd appeared in ten games during the Jets' 1982 season, including three playoff games, and eight in their 1984 season, with two games started. Walter Tyrone Woods (born August 16, 1969 in Brooksville, Florida) is a former professional baseball player. He played five seasons with the Korea Baseball Organization then six further seasons in Nippon Professional Baseball, primarily as a first baseman. Career Minor league career Woods was the 5th pick of the Montreal Expos in the 1988 MLB draft as a high school third baseman. He fielded .882, making 10 errors in 32 games for the GCL Expos and batted just .121.
