Hermetic Press was a publishing company in Seattle, specializing in technical literature on magic and mentalism. The company was founded in 1990 by Stephen Minch who "after writing books on magic for seventeen years, decided to try publishing them as well." The company specialized in high quality books and often produces limited edition volumes with fine binding. In addition to the technical publications, the company has also published magic historical and biographical books, including a translation of J. Magic (illusion)
Magic, which encompasses the subgenres of illusion, stage magic, and close up magic, among others, is a performing art in which audiences are entertained by tricks, effects, or illusions of seemingly impossible feats, using natural means. Alex Elmsley
Alex Elmsley (2 March 1929 – 8 January 2006) was a Scottish magician and computer programmer. He was notable for his invention of the ''Ghost Count'' or '' Elmsley Count'', creating mathematical card tricks, and for publishing on the mathematics of playing card shuffling. He began practising magic in 1946, as a teenager. He studied physics and mathematics at Cambridge University; whilst there he was also secretary of the Pentacle Club. Max Maven
Max Maven (born Philip T. Goldstein; December 21, 1950 – November 1, 2022) was an American magician and mentalist whose performances were considered erudite and intelligent. He is ranked as one of the most influential mentalists of all time, and one of the 100 "Most Influential Magicians of the 20th Century" by ''Magic Magazine''. Life and career Maven often appeared on television magic shows to perform "interactive" mind reading tricks. Tommy Wonder (magician)
Tommy Wonder (November 29, 1953 – June 26, 2006) was the stage name of Jacobus Maria Bemelman, a Dutch magician who performed both close-up and stage magic. Wonder performed in Las Vegas, Monte Carlo and on Fox television. Wonder developed an interest in conjuring at an early age. He studied acting, dancing and singing for three years at the ''Academie voor Podiumvorming'' (Performance Academy) in The Hague and subsequently toured for two years with ''De Haagsche Comedie''. He took second prize at the FISM World Championships of Magic in 1979 and again in 1988. In 1998 he also received the ''Performer Fellowship Award'' from the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood. Juan Tamariz-Martel Negrón (born 18 October 1942, Madrid) known professionally as Juan Tamariz or just Tamariz, is a Spanish magician.
