In the sport of association football, a defender is an outfield position whose primary role is to stop attacks during the game and prevent the opposition from scoring. Centre-backs are usually positioned in pairs, with one full-back on either side to their left and right, but can be played in threes with or without full-backs. Eimsbütteler Turnverband is a German sports club based in Eimsbüttel, Hamburg. Apart from football, the club also offers a variety of other sports, like basketball, volleyball, and fencing. The club's golden era was in the 1930s and early 1940s when it made five appearances in the German championship finals round and won a number of Hamburg city championships against the now much more prominent clubs Hamburger SV and FC St. Pauli. As of 2022, the club's most successful team have been the volleyball women who play in the German Women's 2 Volleyball Bundesliga.
