Hermann Braun
Hermann Braun (November 1, 1917 – January 18 or 20, 1945) was a German film actor, and the son of chamber singer Carl Braun (opera singer), Carl Braun. Biography New York City-born, Braun made his film debut in 1933 with ''Der Jäger aus Kurpfalz''. Braun was initially slated for the role of "Heini Völker" in Hitlerjunge Quex (film), ''Hitlerjunge Quex''. However, much to his regret, illness, prevented his from doing so. The part was played by Jürgen Ohlsen. Braun is credited with a minor role in this film. He was Pola Negri's leading man in her Third Reich film ''The Secret Lie'' (1938), where he plays a young man in her life who we are led to believe is her young lover but turns out to be her son. Braun also played in the Emil Jannings picture ''The Dreamer (1936 film), The Dreamer'' (1936) and in the Veit Harlan-directed ''Jugend'' (1938). Carl Braun (2 June 1886, Meisenheim, Hesse-Nassau – 24 April 1960, Hamburg) was a Germans, German bass opera singer. Biography He was born on 2 June 1886 in Meisenheim, Hesse-Nassau in Germany. A pupil of the ''Berlin Imperial Opera'', he sang with the ''Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden, Wiesbaden Royal Opera'', ''Vienna Imperial Opera,'' ''Berlin City Opera,'' ''Metropolitan Opera'', and the ''Berlin State Opera''. He was actor Hermann Braun's father, Carl Braun, was an early sympathizer with the Nazis and a member of the anti-semitic Kampfbund für deutsche Kultur,Ernst Klee. ''The Fox of Glenarvon'' (German: ''Der Fuchs von Glenarvon'') is a German propaganda film from the Nazi era portraying the years of the Irish fight for independence during World War I. It was produced in 1940 by Max W. Kimmich and starred Olga Tschechowa, Karl Ludwig Diehl, Ferdinand Marian and others. The screenplay was written by Wolf Neumeister and Hans Bertram after a novel of the same title by Nicola Rhon (Maria von Kirchbach) that had been published at Ullstein publishing house in 1937. It was made at the Johannisthal Studios in Berlin, with sets designed by the art directors Wilhelm Depenau and Otto Erdmann. The shoot lasted from December 1939 to February 1940. It passed censorship on 22 April 1940 and had its debut in Berlin's Ufa-Palast am Zoo two days later. Hans Bertram (26 February 1906 – 8 January 1993) was a German aviator, screenwriter and film director. Biography Early life Hans Bertram was born on 26 February 1906 in Remscheid, Germany. Career During 1920, Bertram trained under flying instructor Paul Bäumer, a noted German aviator of World War I, at Hamburg Fuhlsbuttel Airport. From 1927, Bertram was an aviation advisor to the government of the Republic of China and was involved in establishing its naval aviation service. When Bertram piloted a Junkers W 33 seaplane on an around-the world flight during 1932, he became lost over a sparsely-populated part of the Kimberley region of Western Australia and made a forced landing. Peter Paul Brauer (16 May 1899, in Elberfeld – 28 April 1959, in Berlin) was a German film producer and film director. In 1928, he became involved in film production in the Netherlands. That same year he returned to Germany and, over several years, produced several short films. After the takeover of the Nazis in March 1933, Brauer was production manager at the UFA. After 1938, he directed a number of feature films, mostly comedies. Between April 1939 and November 1940 Brauer was production chief of Terra Film. At the beginning of 1940, Brauer was assigned by Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels to produce the anti-Semitic film ''Jud Süß'' (1940). Brauer assigned himself the task of directing the film; however, he ran into difficulties in casting. Frustrated at the delay, Goebbels removed him in favor of Veit Harlan. Veit Harlan (22 September 1899 – 13 April 1964) was a German film director and actor. Harlan reached the highpoint of his career as a director in the Nazi era; most notably his antisemitic film ''Jud Süß'' (1940) makes him controversial. While viewed critically for his ideologies, a number of critics consider him a capable director on the grounds of such work as his ''Opfergang'' (1944). Life and career Harlan was born in Berlin, the son of the writer Walter Harlan and his wife Adele, nee Boothby. His elder brother Peter was a multi-instrumentalist and musical instrument maker. Karl Hartl (10 May 1899 – 29 August 1978) was an Austrian film director. Life Born in Vienna, Hartl began his film career at the Austrian Sascha-Film company of Alexander Kolowrat and from 1919 was assistant to the Hungarian director Alexander Korda. As a production manager, he in the 1920s accompanied Korda to Berlin, until in 1926 he returned to Vienna to work for his former class-mate director Gustav Ucicky. ''Ride to Freedom'' (german: Ritt in die Freiheit) is a 1937 German historical war film directed by Karl Hartl and starring Willy Birgel, Viktor Staal and Hansi Knoteck. The film is set in the 1830s during Poland's November Uprising against the Russian Empire. It portrays the rehabilitation of a Polish cavalry officer whose initial reluctance to engage the enemy leads to the death of his comrades, but later dies fighting bravely. The film was made by German's leading studio UFA, with interiors shot at the Babelsberg Studios. UFA received co-operation from the Polish War Ministry who supplied 5th Regiment of Zaslaw Uhlans for the filming of battles scenes that took place around Ostroleka in Poland.
