Herman Baertschiger Jr.
Herman Baertschiger Jr. is an American Republican Party (Oregon), Republican politician from Oregon who is the chair and a member of the Josephine County, Oregon, Josephine County Board of Commissioners. He previously served in the Oregon State Senate from 2013 to 2021, representing the Oregon's 2nd Senate district, 2nd district. He was elected in 2012 and served as minority leader of the Oregon state senate from 2019 to 2021. Baertschiger served on the Senate Committee on Education and the Senate Committee on Finance and Revenue. During the 2013–2015 legislative biennium session, Baertschiger vice-chaired the Senate Committee on Rural Communities and Economic Development and served on the Senate Committee on General Government, Consumer and Small Business Protection. Josephine County is one of the 36 counties in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2020 census, the population was 88,090. The county seat is Grants Pass. The county is probably named after a stream in the area called Josephine Creek, which in turn is probably named after Virginia Josephine Rollins Ort. Josephine County comprises the Grants Pass, OR Metropolitan Statistical Area, which is included in the Medford-Grants Pass, OR Combined Statistical Area. History The discovery of rich placers at Sailor Diggings (later known as Waldo) in 1852 and the resulting gold rush brought the first settlers to this region. Matthew Walter Hicks (born September 11, 1976) is a Republican politician from the U.S. state of Oregon. He served in the Oregon House of Representatives from 2011 to 2015, representing District 3, which encompasses most of Josephine County, including the cities of Grants Pass and Cave Junction. Early life Hicks was born on September 11, 1976, in Eugene, Oregon. He was raised in Eugene, Oregon until 1984 when his single mother, a newspaper journalist, accepted a reporting position at The Dalles Chronicle in The Dalles, Oregon. The Oregon State Senate is the upper house of the statewide legislature for the US state of Oregon. Grants Pass
Grants Pass is the county seat of Josephine County, Oregon, United States. The city is located on Interstate 5, northwest of Medford, along the Rogue River. The population was 39,189 at the 2020 census. History Early Hudson's Bay Company hunters and trappers, following the Siskiyou Trail, passed through the site beginning in the 1820s. In the late 1840s, settlers (mostly American) following the Applegate Trail began traveling through the area on their way to the Willamette Valley. The city states that the name was selected to honor General Ulysses S. Grant's success at Vicksburg. The Grants Pass post office was established on March 22, 1865.
