Herkimer County Community College
Herkimer County Community College is a public community college in Herkimer, New York. It is part of the State University of New York system. History The college was approved by the State University of New York in 1965, and the County Board of Supervisors authorized the college in 1966. The first class, numbering 221 freshmen, entered in the Fall of 1967 at a temporary campus in the Village of Ilion. The temporary campus was the upper floors of the Remington Arms Company. The current, permanent campus came into use in 1971. Herkimer College offers programs leading to associate degrees or certificates in several dozen program areas. The college has partnered with Cazenovia College to offer a bachelor's degrees in "Criminal Justice and Homeland Security" and Inclusive Early Childhood on the Herkimer campus. Regy Thorpe
Regy Thorpe (born November 27, 1971, in Auburn, New York) was a professional lacrosse player for the Rochester Knighthawks in the National Lacrosse League who is now retired. He played his entire NLL career with the Knighthawks. He also played with the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse. Currently, Thorpe is the head coach for the Hamilton Nationals of Major League Lacrosse. Career Thorpe played for two years at Herkimer County Community College, where he earned All-America honors and was named the NJCAA Defenseman of the Year in 1991. He was inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame in 2011. He then enrolled at Syracuse University and helped the Orange to the national finals in 1992. In his senior season, Thorpe earned All-America honors after leading Syracuse to a national title as a team captain. Shane Hurlbut, (born 18 February 1964) is an American cinematographer. Originally from Ithaca, New York, he grew up near Cayuga Lake, and graduated from Southern Cayuga High School in 1982. Hurlbut studied film at Emerson College, graduating with a degree in film and television in 1986. His early career included work on music videos for Gloria Estefan and Smashing Pumpkins. He met director Rob Cohen while working on a music video for the 1996 disaster film ''Daylight'', and again worked with Cohen as cinematographer for the television pilot of ''The Guardian''. Cazenovia College
Cazenovia College is a private college in Cazenovia, New York. Founded as the Genesee Seminary in 1824 and sponsored by the Methodist Church, in 1894 the college adopted the name of Cazenovia Seminary. It was reorganized in 1942 after church sponsorship was withdrawn and was Cazenovia College for Women from 1961 to 1982, when the college became co-educational again. Ilion, New York
Ilion is a village in Herkimer County, New York, United States. The population was 7,790 at the 2017 census. The village is at the northern edge of the town of German Flatts, though a tiny portion is in the town of Frankfort. It is south of the Mohawk River and Erie Canal. History "Ilion" is a name for the ancient city of Troy. The area where Ilion is located was first settled by Palatine Germans under the Burnetsfield Patent around 1725. Settlers first took plots along Steele Creek, which flows into the Mohawk River. Gradually they built many mills along the creek.
