Heritage Round (AFL)
Heritage Round was an annual round of matches in the Australian Football League in which all the teams wore throwback guernseys from the past. The first Heritage Round was in 2003 and the last was in 2007. Throwback uniforms continue to be worn by clubs on special occasions, but there is no longer a round specifically themed in this manner. Origin The concept of the Heritage Round originated from the Centenary Celebration Round, which took place in 1996, the centenary year of the VFL/AFL. 1996 VFL/AFL Centenary In recognition of the VFL/AFL reaching its 100th season the 8 original teams of the VFL played each other in Round 7, 100 years after Round 1 in the inaugural season. Essendon defeated Geelong at the MCG, while defeated Fitzroy, Collingwood lost to , and Melbourne lost to .The remaining eight clubs played in their normal guernseys, as they came into the VFL/AFL at different times, from 1908 to 1995. The 2003 AFL season was the 107th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The 1907 VFL season was the eleventh season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured eight clubs, ran from 27 April until 21 September, and comprised a 17-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. Brisbane Lions
The Brisbane Lions is a professional Australian rules football club based in Brisbane, Queensland, that plays in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was formed in late 1996 via a merger of the Melbourne-based 1883 foundation VFL club the Fitzroy Lions, and the 1987 Queensland based expansion club the Brisbane Bears, with the colours of maroon, blue, and gold being drawn from both parent clubs. The Lions are one of the most successful AFL club of the 2000s, appearing in four consecutive Grand Finals from 2001 to 2004 and winning three premierships ( 2001, 2002, 2003). 1877 VFA Season
The 1877 Victorian Football Association season was the first in which the Australian rules football competition in Victoria was run under a properly constituted administrative body. The Association was formed with the view to governing the sport via a collective body, made up of delegates representing the clubs. It was the second such body to have been formed; the South Australian National Football League having been formed just 17 days prior to the VFA. The 1891 Victorian Football Association season was the 15th season of the Australian rules football competition. The premiership was won by the Essendon Football Club. It was the first premiership in the club's history, and it was its first premiership out of a sequence of four consecutive premierships won from 1891 to 1894.
