Herina Merzi
''Herina merzi'' is a species of picture-winged fly known only from Merishausen in the canton of Schaffhausen, Switzerland. It is a mostly dark-coloured insect with shining-black abdomen and brownish-black thorax and legs. The head is more colourful with a reddish-yellow frons. The wings are marked with three incomplete dark cross-bands and an isolated dark spot. This insect, first found in 2001, surprisingly, appears to be more closely related to congeners from the Indomalayan realm rather than other European species. The location of the type locality Type locality may refer to: * Type locality (biology) * Type locality (geology) See also * Local (other) * Locality (other) {{disambiguation ..., far from airports and major cities, suggests accidental introduction is unlikely. Picture-winged Fly
The Ulidiidae (formerly Otitidae) or picture-winged flies are a large and diverse cosmopolitan family of flies (Diptera), and as in related families, most species are herbivorous or detritivorous. They are often known as picture-winged flies, along with members of other families in the superfamily Tephritoidea that have patterns of bands or spots on the wings. Some species share with the Tephritidae an unusual elongated posteroapical projection of the anal cell in the wing, but can be differentiated by the smoothly curving subcostal vein. Two species, ''Tetanops myopaeformis'' and ''Euxesta stigmatias'', are agricultural pests. Systematics The Ulidiidae are divided into two subfamilies. Subfamily Otitinae ;Tribe Cephaliini Schiner, 1864 :*''Acrostictella'' Hendel, 1914 :*''Cephalia'' Meigen, 1826 :*''Delphinia'' Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 :*''Myiomyrmica'' Steyskal, 1961 :*''Myrmecothea'' Hendel, 1910 :*''Proteseia'' Korneyev & Hernandes, 1998 :*''Pterotaenia'' Rondani, 18 ...

Indomalayan Realm
The Indomalayan realm is one of the eight biogeographic realms. It extends across most of South and Southeast Asia and into the southern parts of East Asia. Also called the Oriental realm by biogeographers, Indomalaya spreads all over the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia to lowland southern China, and through Indonesia as far as Sumatra, Java, Bali, and Borneo, east of which lies the Wallace line, the realm boundary named after Alfred Russel Wallace which separates Indomalaya from Australasia. Indomalaya also includes the Philippines, lowland Taiwan, and Japan's Ryukyu Islands. Most of Indomalaya was originally covered by forest, and includes tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests, with tropical and subtropical dry broadleaf forests predominant in much of India and parts of Southeast Asia. The tropical forests of Indomalaya are highly variable and diverse, with economically important trees, especially in the families Dipterocarpaceae and Fabaceae. Major ecol ...
