Here I Go (Syd Barrett Song)
"Here I Go" is a song by former singer/songwriter of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett and is the sixth track on his first solo album, ''The Madcap Laughs''. The song tells the story in which the narrator's girlfriend leaves him because "a big band is far better" than himself. He attempts to win her back by writing her a song, but when he goes to her house to show it to her, he instead finds himself falling in love with her sister. Writing The song had already been written as early as 1967 and was previously titled "Boon Tune." While Pink Floyd were still working with Joe Boyd as their producer, Barrett offered Boyd a tape containing several demos, one of which was "Boon Tune," for the band to record. The other members, however, rejected the song, and it was offered to The Purple Gang, a jug band who recently saw chart success with the song "Granny Takes a Trip," to record instead; due to pressure from their record label, they shelved the recording until 2006. Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett (6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006) was an English singer, songwriter, and musician who co-founded the rock band Pink Floyd in 1965. Barrett was their original frontman and primary songwriter, becoming known for his whimsical style of psychedelic music, psychedelia, English-accented singing, and stream-of-consciousness writing style. Jokers Wild (band)
Jokers Wild were an English rock band formed in Cambridge, England, in 1964. The group were active until 1967 and never released any recordings commercially, and are best known for launching the career guitarist David Gilmour, who went on to join Pink Floyd. Career In the early 1960s Clive Welham, Roger "Syd" Barrett, Geoff Mott and Tony Sainty formed a band called Geoff Mott & The Mottoes after meeting at a party. Willie Wilson (drummer)
Willie Wilson (born John Andrew Wilson, 8 July 1947) is an English rock drummer, known for his work with Pink Floyd and his long-time association with their guitarist, David Gilmour. Music career In April 1966, Wilson joined Jokers Wild, a Cambridge band that included his friend David Gilmour on guitar, and later, Rick Wills (subsequently of Foreigner and Bad Company) on bass. In mid-1967, the band travelled to France. The trio performed under the band name Flowers, then Bullitt, but were not successful. After hearing their uninspired covers of contemporary chart hits, club owners were reluctant to pay them, and soon after their arrival in Paris, thieves stole their equipment. When Bullitt returned to England later that year, they were so impoverished that their van was completely empty of petrol and they had to push it off the ferry. ''The Madcap Laughs'' is the debut solo album by the English singer-songwriter Syd Barrett. It was recorded after Barrett had left Pink Floyd in April 1968. Jerry Shirley
Jerry Shirley (born 4 February 1952) is an English rock drummer, best known as a member of the band Humble Pie, appearing on all their albums. He is also known for his work with Fastway, Joey Molland from Badfinger, Alexis Korner, Billy Nicholls, Syd Barrett, John Entwistle, Sammy Hagar and Benny Mardones. Career Shirley was born in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, and began playing drums for the band Apostolic Intervention at an early age.
