Herbst Glacier
Herbst Glacier is located in the US state of Montana in Glacier National Park. The glacier is northeast of Mount Custer and lies above Lake Nooney at an elevation between and above sea level. Immediately east of the Continental Divide, the glacier covers an area of approximately and does not meet the threshold of often cited as being the minimum size to qualify as an active glacier. Between 1966 and 2005, the glacier lost almost 70 percent of its acreage. Glacier County is located in the U.S. state of Montana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 13,778. The county is located in northwestern Montana between the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains, known to the Blackfeet as the "Backbone of the World". The county is geographically and culturally diverse and includes the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, Glacier National Park, and Lewis and Clark National Forest. Mount Custer
Mount Custer () is a mountain in the Livingston Range, Glacier National Park in the U.S. state of Montana. Situated along the Continental Divide, Mount Custer rises more than above Lake Nooney, located below the summit to the east. Herbst Glacier is immediately northeast of the peak. The mountain is probably named for George Armstrong Custer, of Custer's Last Stand. Climate Based on the Köppen climate classification, Mount Custer has in a subarctic climate characterized by long, usually very cold winters, and short, cool to mild summers. Temperatures can drop below −10 °F with wind chill factors below −30 °F. Lake Nooney is located in Glacier National Park, in the U. S. state of Montana. The lake is east of Mount Custer and west of Lake Wurdeman.
