Herbie Danson
Herbert Danson (21 June 1883 – 11 December 1963) was an English professional footballer who played as a forward in the Football League for Preston North End. Preston () is a city on the north bank of the River Ribble in Lancashire, England. The city is the administrative centre of the county of Lancashire and the wider City of Preston local government district. Preston and its surrounding district obtained city status in 2002, becoming England's 50th city in the 50th year of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. Preston has a population of 114,300, the City of Preston district 132,000 and the Preston Built-up Area 313,322. The Preston Travel To Work Area, in 2011, had a population of 420,661, compared with 354,000 in the previous census. Lancashire Senior Cup
The Lancashire County Football Association Cup (commonly known as the Lancashire Senior Cup) is a football knockout tournament involving teams from Lancashire, England. It is a County Cup competition of the Lancashire County Football Association and involves Premier League clubs and Football League clubs. However, these days the bigger Football League clubs generally field their reserve teams. Historic Lancashire currently has 5 Premier League teams, 12 Football League sides and 4 National League teams — this means not every club enters in concurrent years — the tournament starts at the round of 16 so higher up clubs often have to miss years to allow lower down clubs a chance to play in the competition. Lancashire Combination
The Lancashire Combination was a football league founded in the North West of England in 1891–92. It absorbed the Lancashire League in 1903. In 1968 the Combination lost five of its clubs to the newly formed Northern Premier League. In 1982 it was finally merged with the Cheshire County League to form the North West Counties League. 1904–05 In English Football
The 1904–05 season was the 34th season of competitive football in England. Overview Events Stockport County were replaced by Doncaster Rovers in the Second Division. At the end of the 1904–05 season, the First Division was expanded to include 20 teams; Bury and Notts County were elected back into the First Division from the Second Division. Manchester City, the previous season's FA Cup winners, were discovered to have been paying their players up to £6 or £7 per week instead of the legal maximum of £4 per week. The club's influential winger Billy Meredith was accused of bribing Aston Villa player Alex Leake and was faced with an 18-month ban from The Football Association, who further rebuked the club by dismissing five of its directors and banning a total of 17 players from ever playing for the club again.
