Herbert Windsor Mumford I
Herbert Windsor Mumford I (1871-1938) was a professor of agriculture from 1901 to 1938 at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. Biography He was born in 1871. He had a brother, Frederick Blackmar Mumford (1868-1946). He worked at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and was the department head for animal husbandry from 1901 to 1922. He was dean of the UIUC College of Agriculture and the director of the Agricultural Experiment Station and the cooperative extension service from 1922 till his death. He died in 1938. Animal Husbandry
Animal husbandry is the branch of agriculture concerned with animals that are raised for meat, fibre, milk, or other products. It includes day-to-day care, selective breeding, and the raising of livestock. Husbandry has a long history, starting with the Neolithic Revolution when animals were first domesticated, from around 13,000 BC onwards, predating farming of the first crops. By the time of early civilisations such as ancient Egypt, cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs were being raised on farms. Cooperative Extension Service
The Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service (CSREES) was an extension agency within the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), part of the executive branch of the federal government. The 1994 Department Reorganization Act, passed by Congress, created CSREES by combining the former Cooperative State Research Service and the Extension Service into a single agency. In 2009, CSREES was reorganized into the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).
