Herbert Whitten
Herbert Whitten (1909–1981) was a Unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Born in Portadown, Whitten became the managing director of T. A. Shillington, a builders' merchants. He was elected to Portadown District Council as an Ulster Unionist Party member in 1968, and at the 1969 Northern Ireland general election, he was elected for Central Armagh. In 1973, following the reorganisation of local government in Northern Ireland, Whitten was elected to Craigavon Borough Council, and he also took a seat in Armagh on the 1973 Northern Ireland Assembly. Unionist (Ireland)
Unionism is a political tradition on the island of Ireland that favours political union with Great Britain and professes loyalty to the British Crown and constitution. As the overwhelming sentiment of Ireland's Protestant minority, following Catholic Emancipation (1829) unionism mobilised to keep Ireland part of the United Kingdom and to defeat the efforts of Irish nationalists to restore a separate Irish parliament. Mayor Of Craigavon
Craigavon Borough Council was a local council in counties Armagh, Down and Antrim, in Northern Ireland. It merged with Armagh City and District Council and Banbridge District Council in May 2015 under local government reorganisation in Northern Ireland to become Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon District Council. The headquarters of the council were in Craigavon, on the shores of Lough Neagh, a new town built between Lurgan and Portadown. The council area included the large towns of Lurgan and Portadown, as well as smaller ones including Waringstown and Donaghcloney. The average council budget of £15.5 million provided a wide range of services to the 93,023 people living in the area. A member of parliament (MP) is the representative in parliament of the people who live in their electoral district. In many countries with bicameral parliaments, this term refers only to members of the lower house since upper house members often have a different title. Isaac Hawthorne
Isaac George Hawthorne (12 November 1912 – December 1992) was a Unionist politician in Northern Ireland. Hawthorne was schooled in Portadown and Sheffield before becoming a farmer. He was elected to Armagh County Council in 1947 as an Ulster Unionist Party member, holding his seat until 1958. In 1955, he was elected to the Parliament of Northern Ireland in a by-election in Central Armagh. From 1959 to 1963, Hawthorne served as Ulster Unionist Chief Whip, a position which was accompanied by the title Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Finance. From 1965, he served as an Assistant Whip then, in 1966, he became Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Development.
