Herbert Parker (American Politician)
Herbert Parker (March 2, 1856 – February 11, 1939), of Lancaster, Massachusetts, was a Massachusetts politician. Early life Parker was born in Charlestown (now part of Boston), Suffolk County, Massachusetts on March 2, 1856. He was a son of George A. Parker and Harriet Newell ( Felton) Parker (1822–1914). His brother, Harold Parker, was one of the first highway commissioners in Massachusetts and planned many of the highways in the state. His maternal grandparents were Anna ( Morse) Felton and Cornelius Conway Felton Sr. Among his maternal family were uncles, Cornelius Conway Felton (the President of Harvard from 1860 to 1862), Samuel Morse Felton, Sr., John B. Felton, and his cousin was Samuel Morse Felton, Jr. He graduated from Harvard College in 1878. Career Parker was a Republican. John Parker (Labour Politician)
Herbert John Harvey Parker (15 July 1906 – 24 November 1987) was a British Labour Party politician. He was the longest-serving Labour Party Member of Parliament (MP), retaining his seat in the House of Commons for over 47 years, until being overtaken by Dennis Skinner on 15 December 2017. He was first elected to represent Romford in November 1935. After boundary changes, he continued as MP for Dagenham from 1945, remaining in the House of Commons until he retired in June 1983. As the longest-serving MP, he was the Father of the House of Commons from 1979 to 1983. When he left parliament in 1983, he was the last serving Member of Parliament to have served in the Commons before or during the Second World War. Herbert Parker (health Physicist)
Herbert M. Parker (13 April 1910, Accrington – 5 March 1984, Richland, Washington) was an English, and American immigrant, medical physicist. He was a pioneer of medical radiation therapy and radiation safety, known for introducing the roentgen equivalent physical (rep), the forerunner of the gray and the rad, and also the roentgen equivalent biological (reb), the forerunner of the rem and the sievert. Career After receiving an M.S. in physics from the University of Manchester in 1931, Parker became a medical physicist at the Christie Hospital and the Holt Radium Institute in Manchester. With James R. Paterson, he developed in 1932 the Paterson-Parker method, or Manchester System, for radiation therapy. The method allows physicians to use radium needles or tubes to maximize the radiation dose delivered to a cancerous tumour whilst minimizing the dose to healthy tissue. Herb Parker
Herbert Mitchell Parker (January 18, 1921 - October 7, 2007) was an educator and football coach at Minot State University. Early life Parker was born in Jamestown, North Dakota and raised and educated in Nekoma. Parker was an all-conference athlete and captain of the basketball team, while at Jamestown College. In 1983, Parker was inducted into the college's Athletic Hall of Fame. Parker also has been inducted into the MSU Athletic Hall of Fame and the NAIA Hall of Fame. Parker received a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. Teaching and coaching career In 1942, Parker married Marjorie Wilson in Washburn, North Dakota and moved to Dickinson. Parker taught and coached at Dickinson High School until 1947, when his family moved to Minot. Herb Parker Stadium is an outdoor 4,500-seat multi-purpose stadium in the north central United States, located on the campus of Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota. The venue is home to the MSU Beavers football and women's soccer teams. It was named in 1983 for Herb Parker, the long-time coach and athletic director. The Beavers are members of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) in NCAA Division II. Prior to 2012, they belonged to the Dakota Athletic Conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
