Herbert Edward Jones (6 April 1861 – 19/20 February 1920) was an English clergyman, the second Suffragan Bishop of Lewes and Archdeacon of Chichester. Biography The second son of Sir Willoughby Jones, 3rd Baronet, he was educated at Eton College and Trinity College, Cambridge, ordained in 1884 and began his career with a curacy at St Andrews, Westminster. Herbert Gresford Jones (1870–1958) was an Anglican bishop, the third Suffragan Bishop of Warrington. Born on 7 April 1870 and educated at Haileybury and Trinity College, Cambridge, he was ordained in 1894. He began his career with a curacy at St Helen's Parish Church, Sefton, before Incumbencies at St Michael's-in-the-Hamlet, Liverpool, and St John’s. From there he rose rapidly being successively Rural Dean of Bradford and then Archdeacon of Sheffield. In 1920, he was appointed as the first suffragan bishop of Kampala, but he returned to England in 1923 as Vicar of Pershore. From 1927 until 1945, he served as Bishop of Warrington.'' Herbert Jones (footballer, Born 1896)
Herbert Jones (3 September 1896 – 11 September 1973) was an English professional footballer who played as a defender. He played for various clubs in England, including Blackpool, Blackburn Rovers, where he won the FA Cup in 1928, and Brighton. He also played six times for the England national team. Early life Jones trained as a plumber before World War I. During the war, he was stationed in France. He took part in the truce of Christmas 1915. He became a pacifist and remained so for the rest of his life. In the summer of 1915 or 1916 he was hit by shrapnel when a shell exploded nearby. As a result of this injury he was honourably discharged. Football career Jones began his football career, whilst still a part-time plumber, with his hometown club, Blackpool, making his debut on 16 December 1922, in a goalless draw against Hull City at Bloomfield Road. __NOTOC__ Herbert Ebsworth Jones, often known as Bertie, (30 November 1880 – 18 July 1951) was an English Thoroughbred horse racing jockey. He often rode for King Edward VII, and in 1909 he rode the first Derby winner owned by a British monarch. He remains one of only fifteen jockeys to win the British Triple Crown. The Triple Crown Son of the jumping trainer Jack Jones, young Herbert was apprenticed to Richard Marsh at the age of ten and rode his first winner in 1896. In 1900, he won the British Triple Crown when he rode Diamond Jubilee to victory in the 2,000 Guineas Stakes, Epsom Derby and St. Leger Stakes. He was the work rider for the temperamental Diamond Jubilee and it was observed that this wayward colt went better for him than for any more established jockey. Diamond Jubilee had rolled on his race rider Mornington Cannon after a gallop just before the 2,000 Guineas. Hence Jones gained his chance and won the Triple Crown on the Prince of Wales's horse. L. Herbert Jones (May 23, 1904 – May 28, 1926) was an American racecar driver from Indianapolis. Jones drove in the 1925 Indianapolis 500, one of only 25 drivers in the field, but crashed on lap 69 and finished 19th. In 1926 Jones attempted to return to the race. However, he clipped the inside wall at the northwest turn on his second qualifying lap on May 27, flipping the car several times and fracturing his skull. He died of his injuries the following day. Herbert Keyshawn Jones (born October 6, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the New Orleans Pelicans of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He earned third-team All-American honors as a senior in 2021, when he was also named the SEC Player of the Year. High school career Jones started playing varsity basketball as a seventh-grader for Sunshine High School in Newbern, Alabama, where his father served as the head coach. He played alongside his older brother, Walter Jr., and helped his team reach the Class 1A state finals in 2015, before the school closed. Early life and education Born in Weymouth, Nova Scotia, the son of St. Clair Jones and Helen Ladd, Jones was educated at the schools in Weymouth and the Collegiate Institute in Fredericton, graduating in 1875. Career He then worked with his father for a time, and, in 1888, entered into partnership with his brothers, carrying on business as general merchants, lumbermen and ship owners. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for Digby in the 1887 election held following the death of John Campbell. A Conservative, he was defeated in 1891.
