Herbert Jackson (chemist)
Sir Herbert Jackson KBE, FRS (1863–1936) was a British chemist. He was knighted for his work on heat-resisting and optical glasses for military use in the First World War. Jackson was born in Hampstead, London, on 17 March 1863. He studied at King's College, London from 1879, becoming Professor of Organic Chemistry in 1905. In 1914 he became Daniell Professor of Chemistry. During the War he worked for the Optical Munitions and Glassware Department (OMGD) of the Ministry of Munitions. In 1918 he resigned his Professorship to become the Director of Research of the British Scientific Instrument Research Association. Herbert Leslie Jackson (5 April 1921 – 25 April 2007) was an English professional cricketer. A fast or fast-medium bowler renowned for his accurate bowling and particular hostility on uncovered wickets, he played county cricket for Derbyshire from 1947 to 1963, and was regularly at, or near the top of, the English bowling averages. He played in only two Test matches for England, one in 1949 and a second in 1961. Jackson's absence from Test cricket was largely because his batting was so underdeveloped: his highest first-class score was 39 not out, and he reached 30 on only two other occasions. Between July 1949 and August 1950, Jackson indeed played fifty-one innings without reaching double figures, a number known to be exceeded only by Jem Shaw, Nobby Clark, Eric Hollies (twice), Brian Boshier and Mark Robinson. Gahini is a village and sector in Kayonza District, Eastern Province, Rwanda. It is situated on a hill, at an altitude of 1,520 metres (4,990 ft) above sea-level, close to the eastern edge of Lake Muhazi and by road from the capital, Kigali. Herb Jackson
Herb Jackson (born August 18, 1945), is an American artist and educator. He is the Douglas Houchens Professor of Fine Arts and Professor of Art Emeritus at Davidson College, where he retired from teaching in 2011. In 1999, Jackson was awarded the North Carolina Award, the highest civilian honor in the state, by Governor Jim Hunt of North Carolina. In 2015 Jackson was awarded the North Caroliniana Society Award for extraordinary contributions to North Carolina's cultural heritage. Biography Herb Jackson was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on August 18, 1945. Throughout his childhood he was a regular at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh and won his first award for art in a juried exhibition there in 1962, while a student at Needham B. Broughton High School.
