Herbert E. Farnsworth
Herbert E. Farnsworth (August 23, 1834 – July 4, 1908) was an American soldier who fought in the American Civil War. Farnsworth received the country's highest award for bravery during combat, the Medal of Honor, for his action during the Battle of Trevilian Station at Trevilian Station in Virginia on 11 June 1864. He was honored with the award on 1 April 1898. Biography Farnsworth was born in Perrysburg, New York on 23 August 1834. He joined the 10th New York Cavalry as a bugler (rank), bugler in September 1861. By June 1864, the time of his meritorious action, he was the regiment's Sergeant major#United States, Sergeant Major. He was commissioned as a first lieutenant in August 1864 and mustered out in June 1865. Farnsworth died on 4 July 1908 and his remains are interred at the Pomeroy City Cemetery in Washington. Perrysburg, New York
Perrysburg is a town in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The population was 1,515 at the 2020 census. The town is named after Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry and is located in the northwest corner of the county. The town contains the census-designated place also named Perrysburg, formerly an incorporated village. History The town of Perrysburg was formed in 1814 as the "town of Perry" from the towns of Hebe and Olean. It originally consisted of the entire western half of the county and was created because the county did not yet have a centralized government; Hebe and Olean were administered as part of Allegany County. Perry was governed as part of Niagara County (which at the time also covered the entirety of what is now Erie County) until Cattaraugus County achieved self-government in 1817. American Civil War
The American Civil War (April 12, 1861 – May 26, 1865; also known by other names) was a civil war in the United States. It was fought between the Union ("the North") and the Confederacy ("the South"), the latter formed by states that had seceded. The bugle is one of the simplest brass instruments, normally having no brass instrument valve, valves or other pitch-altering devices.
