Herbert Baxter Adams
Herbert Baxter Adams (April 16, 1850 – July 30, 1901) was an American educator and historian who brought German rigor to the study of history in America; a founding member of the American History Association; and one of the earliest educators using the seminar for teaching history. With a fresh PhD from the University of Heidelberg in Germany, Johns Hopkins University brought Adams in as a teaching fellow in history during their inaugural year. Adams stayed with Johns Hopkins until his health failed. Early years Adams was born to lumber merchant Nathaniel Dickinson Adams and Harriet (Hastings) Adams in Shutesbury, Massachusetts on April 16, 1850. The Adams Company is an American manufacturing concern. It was founded in 1883 and is based in Dubuque, Iowa, United States. Between 1905 and 1912 it produced the Adams-Farwell, a brass era automobile. Herbert Adams (sculptor)
Samuel Herbert Adams (January 28, 1858 – May 21, 1945) was an American sculptor. Biography Herbert Adams was born in 1858 at West Concord, Vermont, son of machinist and patternmaker Samuel Minot Adams and Nancy Powers. In 1863, at the age of five, he moved to Fitchburg, Massachusetts, so his father could take a job at the Putnam Machine Co. His family purchased a home on 26 Chestnut Street. He was educated in the public schools of Fitchburg and Worcester, and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He was influenced by Fitchburg's first Art teacher, Louise Haskell, to pursue a career in Art. He studied art at the Massachusetts Normal Art School in Boston and got a teaching certificate. Herbert Adams taught Art in the Fitchburg public schools from 1878 tp 1882, but left Fitchburg for Paris France in 1885 to pursue his interest in sculpture. Herbert Jordan Adams
Herbert Jordan Adams (1838 – 1 March 1912) was an English entomologist. Adams was born in London in 1838. His schoolboy collection of butterflies and moths formed the basis of an excellent collection of British ''Lepidoptera''. Following the death of his mother and the sale of her house and land at Chase Park, Enfield, Adams moved to a nearby house, Roseneath,The Entomologist's Monthly Magazine, collected vols 48 and 49, Entomologist's Monthly Magazine Ltd, 1912, pp. 142, 243 and amassed 68 cabinets and some 600 cartons of European and World butterflies. He employed Percy Ireland Lathy to curate the collection and describe the new species it contained. He became a fellow of the Royal Entomological Society in 1877. Adams died at Enfield in 1912. Herbert C. Adams (born ) is an American historian, politician, and journalist from Maine. A Democrat, Adams was a member of the Portland School Committee from 1997–2004. He represented the Portland neighborhoods of East Bayside and Parkside in the Maine House of Representatives. He is also a noted historian of local history, having published ''Bold Vision: the History of the Portland Park System'' in 2000. In 2010, term limits prevented him from seeking re-election, and the district he represented, 119, was won by independent Ben Chipman. In 2012, Chipman won re-election, turning back Adams' attempt to regain the seat, 1,884 to 1,272. A third contender in the race, Republican Gwendolyne Tuttle, received 317 votes.
