Herberger Institute For Design And The Arts
The Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona was created in 2009 by the merger of two existing academic units, the Katherine K. Herberger College of the Arts and the College of Design. The Arizona Board of Regents approved the merger on April 30, 2009. The Herberger Institute comprises five schools: the School of Art; the School of Arts, Media and Engineering; The Design School; The New American Film School; and the School of Music, Dance and Theatre. The history of Arizona State University began March 12, 1885 with the founding of the establishment originally named the Territorial Normal School at Tempe. The school was founded after John Samuel Armstrong first introduced House Bill 164, “An Act to Establish a Normal School in the Territory of Arizona” to the 13th Legislative Assembly of the Arizona Territory. Instruction was instituted on February 8, 1886, under the supervision of Principal Hiram Bradford Farmer. Wellington "Duke" Reiter (born 1957), FAIA, is an American architect and urban designer, and a Senior Adviser at Arizona State University. Biography Reiter graduated with a B.
