Herb Snyder
Herbert S. Snyder (born September 7, 1953 in Winchester, Virginia) is a former Democratic member of the West Virginia Senate representing District 16. Snyder served as a Jefferson County Commissioner from 1990 to 1996, when he was elected to his first term in the State Senate. He was reelected in 2000, defeating future Jefferson County Commissioner Greg Corliss. In 2004, he was defeated in the primary by former Ranson, West Virginia, Mayor Greg Lance, who went on to lose the November election to Republican John Yoder. When Yoder announced he would run for State Circuit Court Judge in 2008, Snyder announced his bid for a third term. He defeated businessman Bob Adams, a Republican, in the November 2008 election. After being elected to a fourth term in 2012, Snyder expressed interest in running for West Virginia's 2nd congressional district in 2014. West Virginia's 16th Senate District
West Virginia's 16th Senate district is one of 17 districts in the West Virginia Senate. It is currently represented by Democrat Hannah Geffert and Republican Patricia Rucker. All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms. Geography District 16 covers all of Jefferson County and parts of Berkeley County at the far eastern edge of the state's Eastern Panhandle. Communities within the district include Martinsburg, Charles Town, Ranson, Bolivar, Harpers Ferry, Shepherdstown, and Shannondale. The district is located entirely within West Virginia's 2nd congressional district, and overlaps with the 59th, 60th, 61st, 62nd, 63rd, 64th, 65th, 66th, and 67th districts of the West Virginia House of Delegates. West Virginia's 2nd Congressional District
West Virginia's 2nd congressional district currently stretches from the Ohio River border with Ohio to the Potomac River border with Maryland and the border with Virginia. It includes the capital city of Charleston and the rapidly growing residential communities of West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle and Potomac Highlands regions connected by a narrow strip of nearly unpopulated counties. It is wide and long. As a result of the state losing a seat as a result of the 2020 United States census the state legislature redrew the map, totally changing the district's boundaries for the 2022 congressional election and the following 10 years. The Young Democrats of America (YDA) is the youth wing of the Democratic Party of the United States. YDA operates as a separate organization from the Democratic National Committee; following the passage of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act, it became an independent 527 organization. The group's membership consists of Democrats from ages 14 to 35, and its political activities include an emphasis on increasing the voter turnout of young people. ''The Journal'' is a daily newspaper based in Martinsburg, West Virginia, and serving Berkeley, Jefferson and Morgan counties in the state's Eastern Panhandle. It is owned by Ogden Newspapers. The Journal was established as ''The Evening Journal'' in 1907 by Harry F. Byrd, a future U.S. Senator and governor of Virginia.
