Herb Maack
Herbert Henry Maack (April 16, 1917 – May 5, 2007) was an American football player and coach. He was the head coach of the Rhode Island Rams football team from 1956 through 1960. He compiled a 17–22–2 record and led the Rams to a share of the 1957 Yankee Conference championship. Maack, a native of West New York, New Jersey, attended the Hun School of Princeton in Princeton for high school and then played football and basketball in college for the Columbia Lions. Maack played professionally for one season (1946) with the now-defunct Brooklyn Dodgers of the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). Mack served as an officer in the United States Navy during World War II. All-America Football Conference
The All-America Football Conference (AAFC) was a professional American football league that challenged the established National Football League (NFL) from 1946 to 1949. One of the NFL's most formidable challengers, the AAFC attracted many of the nation's best players, and introduced many lasting innovations to the game. However, the AAFC was ultimately unable to sustain itself in competition with the NFL. After it folded, three of its teams were admitted to the NFL: the San Francisco 49ers, the Cleveland Browns and the original Baltimore Colts (not to be confused with the later Baltimore Colts team, now the Indianapolis Colts). ''The Newport Daily News'' is a six-day daily newspaper serving Newport County, Rhode Island. It publishes in the mornings on weekdays (Monday through Friday) and in the morning on Saturdays. The ''Daily News'' was the state's largest family-owned newspaper until it was purchased by Gatehouse Media in 2017. History Until its sale to Gatehouse Media, the ''Daily News'' had been locally owned since it was founded in 1846.
