Sinhalese people ( si, සිංහල ජනතාව, Sinhala Janathāva) are an Indo-Aryan ethnolinguistic group native to the island of Sri Lanka. They were historically known as Hela people ( si, හෙළ). Herath Mudiyanselage Charitha Herath (born 9 September 1967) is current member of Parliament from National List, Chairman of the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE). and the Professor of Philosophy at the University of Peradeniya. Chatura Herath (born Herath Mudiyanselage Chatura Udayanga Herath on 26 April 1987) was a Sri Lankan cricketer. He was a right-handed batsman and wicket-keeper who played for Moors Sports Club. He was born in Colombo. Herath made his cricketing debut for Sri Lanka Under-19s in a tour of England which saw him play in two Under-19 One Day Internationals and two Under-19 Tests. Cyril Herath
Deshamanya L. D. Cyril Herath was a Sri Lankan Inspector-General of Police and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Defence. Education He was educated at St. John's College, Nugegoda and at the Royal College, Colombo and graduated from the University of Ceylon, Peradeniya with a BA in Economics, History and Philosophy, where he gained university colours in Athletics. Harold Herath
Deshabandu James Edward Herath Herald known as Harold Herath (10 March 1930 – 31 August 2007) was a senior Sri Lankan politician and Cabinet Minister. Herath was most notably Minister of Foreign Affairs under President Ranasinghe Premadasa from 1991 to 1993. He entered Parliament winning the Nattandiya electorate in the Puttalam Electoral District 1977, and held his seat until 2000 retiring not contesting the 2001 parliamentary election. He has also held the portfolios of Minister of Justice and Minister of Coconut Development. In 2005 Harold Herath was conferred the national honour and title Deshabandu by President Chandrika Kumaratunga. Harold Herath died on 31 August 2007 after a brief illness, he was 77.
