Her Name in Lights are an indie pop band led by Mary Wyer (ex- Even As We Speak) on lead vocals with her husband Almond Cafarella on guitar and piano, as well as Simon Holmes (died in 2017) of The Hummingbirds' fame on multiple instruments and Simon Gibson of Sneeze on drums. On 18 October 2004 they released their first album, ''Into the Light Again'', on Laughing Outlaw Records. History Mary Wyer (ex- Even As We Speak) on lead vocals formed Her Name in Lights in Sydney, initially as a studio band, to record tracks for an album, ''Into the Light Again''. For the sessions, Wyer used Almond Cafarella (her then-boyfriend) on guitar and piano, Simon Holmes (of The Hummingbirds) on bass guitar, guitar pump organ and as producer, and Alison Galloway (of Smudge) on drums and percussion. Pop Rock
Pop rock (also typeset as pop/rock) is a fusion genre with an emphasis on professional songwriting and recording craft, and less emphasis on attitude than rock music. Simon Holmes (guitarist)
Simon Carter Holmes (28 March 196313 July 2017) was an Australian musician who served as the singer and lead guitarist for the indie rock bands, The Hummingbirds (1986–93) and Her Name in Lights (2003–05). Biography Simon Holmes was born on 28 March 1963 at Mordialloc Hospital to Neville and Eve Holmes. He grew up with an elder sister, Kerith, and a younger brother, Rowan. The family lived in Bentleigh, before shifting to Turramurra in 1967, before going overseas for three years, in upstate New York, where Holmes started school at Myers Corner. The family then moved to Geneva, Switzerland. He spent part of his childhood in Canberra, attending the AME School: an alternative education institution and then Hawker College. Holmes moved to Sydney in the early 1980s. He started studying anthropology and archaeology at the University of Sydney, but left after two years. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. The Hummingbirds
The Hummingbirds were an Australian indie pop and jangle pop band from Sydney, who formed in 1986 from Bug Eyed Monsters. They were one of the most highly regarded outfits to emerge from Sydney's inner-city scene during the late 1980s and were an early signing to the rooArt label. The Hummingbirds' single, "Blush", peaked at No.19 on the ARIA singles charts in 1989. They left rooArt in 1992, and disbanded in 1993. Biography The Hummingbirds formed in 1986 from the remnants of the short lived band Bug Eyed Monsters. Sneeze are an Australian pop rock band formed in 1991 by Nic Dalton (who ran the band's record label, Half a Cow) on vocals, bass guitar, guitar, keyboards, and drums, and Tom Morgan (from Smudge) on vocals and guitar. They issued four albums, ''Sneeze'' (1993), ''The Four Seezons'' (1997), '' Lost the Spirit to Rock & Roll'' (2001) and ''Just The Blues Sped Up'' (April 2004). As of mid-2019, Sneeze have been working on new material. Smudge (band)
Smudge are an Australian rock and indie pop trio formed in 1991 by Paul Duncan on bass guitar, Alison Galloway on drums and Tom Morgan on guitar and vocals. Morgan is known outside Australia as a song writing collaborator of Evan Dando and his band, the Lemonheads. In 1994 Duncan was replaced on bass guitar by Adam Yee and in 1997 Pete Kelly joined on guitar. Smudge signed with Half a Cow to issue four studio albums, ''Manilow'' (1994), ''Hot Smoke and Sassafras'' (1994), ''You Me Carpark . . . AllMusic (previously known as All Music Guide and AMG) is an American online music database. It catalogs more than three million album entries and 30 million tracks, as well as information on musicians and bands.
