''Her Big Night'' is a 1926 American silent comedy film directed by Melville W. Brown and written by Brown, Rex Taylor, and Nita O'Neil. It is based on the 1925 short story, ''Doubling for Lora'', by Peggy Gaddis that was originally serialized in ''Breezy Stories'' magazine. The film stars Laura La Plante, Einar Hanson, and Zasu Pitts. The film was released on December 5, 1926 by Universal Pictures under their 'Jewel' banner. John Roche (actor)
John Roche (February 6, 1893 – November 10, 1952) was an American actor of the stage and screen. Biography Roche was born in the small village of Penn Yan, New York, on February 6, 1893. He graduated from the University of Rochester, after which he began his acting career touring with stock companies during the 1910s and early 1920s. In 1922, he broke into the film industry with a featured role in ''The Good Provider''. During the 1920s, he acted in both films and on stage, including several roles in Broadway productions. He acted steadily in films until 1936, in both featured and supporting roles. In the mid-1930s he took a break from films, focusing on the stage, including directing the play, ''Mackerel Skies'', which had a short run at the Playhouse Theatre in New York in 1936. Roche returned to films in 1941, with a small role in the Norma Shearer vehicle, ''We Were Dancing'' (1942), based on the Noël Coward play of the same name. Cissy Fitzgerald
Cissy Fitzgerald (born Mary Kate Kipping; 1 February 1873 – 10 May 1941) was an English-American vaudeville actress, dancer, and singer who appeared in numerous silent and sound films. Fitzgerald acted in a popular ''Gaiety Girl'' show beginning in 1894 and was filmed in the role in 1896 in a self-titled short film shot by Thomas Edison's film company. She did not appear in films again until 1914 where she signed with the Vitagraph company and was quite popular in feature films and her own series of ''Cissy'' short films. Very little of Fitzgerald's silent material survives except her comic backup role in the 1928 Lon Chaney vehicle ''Laugh, Clown, Laugh''.
