Wind farms vary in size from a small number of turbines to several hundred wind turbines covering an exten ... built and owned by Hepburn Wind, a community co-operative, and supported by the Victorian Government. The location of the project is Leonards Hill, south of Daylesford, Victoria, north-west of Melbourne, Victoria (Australia), Victoria. It comprises two individual 2.05 MW wind turbines supplied by REpower, REpower System AG which are projected to produce enough energy for 2,300 households when the wind is blowing, almost as many houses are in the twin-towns of Daylesford, Victoria, Daylesford and Hepburn Springs. The project is the first community-owned wind farm in Australia. The initiative emerged because the community felt that the state and federal governments were not doing enough to C ... Wind Power In Denmark
Denmark was a pioneer in developing commercial wind power during the 1970s, and today a substantial share of the wind turbines around the world are produced by Danish manufacturers such as Vestasthe world's largest wind-turbine manufactureralong with many component suppliers. Furthermore, Denmark hasas of 2022the world’s 2nd highest amount of wind power generation capacity installed per capita, behind only neighboring Sweden. In 2024, wind power made up 59.3% of total electricity generation in Denmark, up from 56% in 2020, 20% in 2010 and 11% in 2000.Rasmussen, Jesper Nørskov.Vindmøller slog rekord i 2014" (in Danish) '' Energinet.dk'', 6 January 2015. Wind Farms In Victoria (state)
Wind is the natural movement of atmosphere of Earth, air or other gases relative to a planetary surface, planet's surface. Winds occur on a range of scales, from thunderstorm flows lasting tens of minutes, to local breezes generated by heating of land surfaces and lasting a few hours, to global winds resulting from the difference in absorption (electromagnetic radiation), absorption of solar energy between the climate zones on Earth. The study of wind is called anemology. The two main causes of large-scale atmospheric circulation are the differential heating between the equator and the poles, and the rotation of the planet (Coriolis effect). Within the tropics and subtropics, thermal low circulations over terrain and high plateaus can drive monsoon circulations. In coastal areas the sea breeze/land breeze cycle can define local winds; in areas that have variable terrain, mountain and valley breezes can prevail. Winds are commonly classified by their scale (spatial), spatial ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

Wind Power In Victoria, Australia
Victoria has some of the best wind resources in Australia, along the southern coast and in the higher altitude areas. Most of Victoria's wind farms are being built along the southern coast and around the Ballarat, Ararat, and Hamilton areas. The total capacity for the state as of 2021 was around 2,888.3 MW. Several wind farms are under construction while several more have been proposed and approved. The total potential capacity of wind turbines in Victoria including those currently operational, those under construction, and approved proposals is around 8,000 MW. By comparison, Victoria's total peak electricity usage is around 8,000–10,000 MW. Community Wind
Community wind projects are locally owned by farmers, investors, businesses, schools, utilities, or other public or private entities who utilize wind energy to support and reduce energy costs to the local community. The key feature is that local community members have a significant, direct financial stake in the project beyond land lease payments and tax revenue. Projects may be used for on-site power or to generate wholesale power for sale, usually on a commercial-scale greater than 100 kW. Taryn Lane
Taryn Lane is the manager of Hepburn Community Wind Farm, and in 2021 she was inducted to the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in the 'Trailblazer' category. She is a community energy and renewable energy expert. Early life and career Lane obtained a Bachelor and Master of Arts. She lives in Central Victoria, and is the manager of the community owned Hepburn Community Wind Farm, which aims to be a source of 100% sustainable energy for the community. Lane is a director of RE-Alliance, the Coalition for Community Energy, and the director of the Smart Energy Council. Lane works at Hepburn Community wind farm, which is the 'Australia’s first community owned wind generator'. In 2011, 2,000 community members donated $10 million to fund the building of a wind farm with two turbines. The objective is to be using 100% renewable energy by 2024. Lane is also a fellow at the Centre for Sustainability Leadership. Hepburn Community Wind Farm, of which Lane is a manager, won a Premier's su ... Wind Power In The United States
Wind power is a branch of the energy industry that has expanded quickly in the United States over the last several years. In 2024, 453.5 terawatt-hours were generated by wind power, or 10.54% of electricity in the United States. The average wind turbine generates enough electricity in 46 minutes to power the average American home for one month. In 2019, wind power surpassed hydroelectric power as the Renewable energy in the United States, largest renewable energy source in the U.S. In March and April of 2024, electricity generation from wind exceeded generation from coal, once the dominant source of U.S. electricity, for an extended period for the first time. The federal government and many state governments United States wind energy policy, have policies that guide and support the development of the industry, including tax credits and renewable portfolio standards. As of December 2023, the total installed wind power nameplate generating capacity in the United States was 147,50 ... Wind Power In The United Kingdom
The United Kingdom is the best location for wind power in Europe and one of the best in the world. The combination of long coastline, shallow water and strong winds make offshore wind unusually effective. By 2023, the UK had over 11 thousand wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 30gigawatts (GW): 16 GW onshore and 15 GW offshore, the fifth largest capacity of any country. Wind power is the largest source of renewable energy in the UK, but at under 5% still far less primary energy than oil or fossil gas. However, wind power generates electricity which is far more powerful in terms of useful energy than the same amount of thermal primary energy. Wind generates more than a quarter of UK electricity, and as of May 2024 generates more than gas over a whole year. Polling of public opinion consistently shows strong support for wind power in the UK, with nearly three-quarters of the population agreeing with its use, even for people living near onshore wind turbines. ... Wind Power
Wind power is the use of wind energy to generate useful work. Historically, wind power was used by sails, windmills and windpumps, but today it is mostly used to generate electricity. This article deals only with wind power for electricity generation. Today, wind power is generated almost completely using wind turbines, generally grouped into wind farms and connected to the electrical grid. In 2024, wind supplied over 2,494 TWh of electricity, which was 8.1% of world electricity. With about 100 Gigawatt, GW added during 2021, mostly Wind power in China, in China and the Wind power in the United States, United States, global installed wind power capacity exceeded 800 GW. 30 countries generated more than a tenth of their electricity from wind power in 2024 and wind generation has nearly tripled since 2015. To help meet the Paris Agreement goals to Climate change mitigation, limit climate change, analysts say it should expand much faster – by over 1% of electricity generation p ... Wind Power In Germany
Wind power in Germany is a growing industry. The installed capacity was 55.6 gigawatts (GW) at the end of 2017, with 5.2 GW from offshore installations. In 2020, 23.3% of the country's total electricity was generated through wind power, up from 6.2% in 2010 and 1.6% in 2000. More than 26,772 wind turbines were located in the German federal area by year end 2015, and the country has plans for further expansion. As of the end of 2015, Germany was the third largest producer of wind power in the world by installations, behind China and the United States. Germany also has a number of turbine manufacturers, like Enercon, Nordex and Senvion. In the first half of 2021, with 22% a contribution to German electric generation, wind was the second most important contributor, following coal, which was the top producer, with 27%. In 2020 wind was the top generator. The German Federal Government has enacted plans to expand offshore wind energy, with targets of 30 gigawatts by ...
