Henry Woodward (colonist)
Henry Woodward (c. 1646 – c. 1690), was a Barbados-born merchant and colonist who was one of the first white settlers in the Carolinas. He established relationships with many Native American Indians in the American southeast. He initiated trade, primarily in deerskins and slaves, with many Indian towns and tribes. Early life Not much is known about Henry Woodward's early life. He is thought to have been born in Barbados. His father was William Woodward and his mother was Esther Martin. In 1666, Henry Woodward accompanied Captain Robert Sandford's exploration of the South Carolina coast. Woodward volunteered to remain in the Port Royal Sound vicinity and live among the Cusabo Indians, to establish relations and learn their language. Henry Woodward (English Actor)
Henry Woodward (2 October 1714 – 17 April 1777) was an English actor, among the most famous in his day for comedy roles. Early life and career Woodward was the eldest son of a tallow chandler in the borough of Southwark, London, and intended for his father's occupation. He attended Merchant Taylors' school from 1724 to 1728. After his father's failure in business, Woodward joined the troupe of John Rich, whose stage name was "Lun", at Lincoln's Inn Fields, playing in January 1729 in ''The Beggar's Opera'' as the Beggar and Ben Budge. During the season the performance was repeated fifteen times, and Woodward, thoroughly stage-struck, remained with Rich, who instructed him in harlequin and other characters. From October 1730 he appeared at Goodman's Fields Theatre, where he remained until 1736. Henry Woodward (geologist)
Henry Bolingbroke Woodward (24 November 1832 – 6 September 1921) was an English geologist and paleontologist known for his research on fossil crustaceans and other arthropods. Woodward was born Norwich, England on 24 November 1832 and was educated at Norwich School. He became assistant in the geological department of the British Museum in 1858, and in 1880 keeper of that department. He became Fellow of the Royal Society in 1873, LL.D (St Andrews) in 1878, president of the Geological Society of London (1894–1896). He was awarded the Murchison Medal in 1884 and Wollaston Medal in 1906. Woodward was president of the Geologists' Association for the years 1873 and 1874, president of the Malacological Society in 1893–1895, president of the Museums Association for the year 1900, and president of the Palaeontographical Society from 1895 (upon the death of incumbent president T. Henry Woodward was a Canadian inventor and a major pioneer in the development of the incandescent lamp. The Last Of The Mohicans (1920 American Film)
''The Last of the Mohicans'' is a 1920 American Western silent film written by Robert A. Dillon, adapted from James Fenimore Cooper's 1826 novel of the same name. Clarence Brown and Maurice Tourneur co-directed the film. (Brown took over the direction of the film after Tourneur injured himself in a fall.) It is a story of two English sisters meeting danger on the frontier of the American colonies, in and around the fort commanded by their father. The adventure film stars Wallace Beery, Barbara Bedford, Lillian Hall, Alan Roscoe and Boris Karloff in one of his earliest silent film roles (playing an Indian brave). Barbara Bedford later married her co-star in the film, Alan Roscoe in real life. The production was shot near Big Bear Lake and in Yosemite Valley. Henry Woodward (Australian Politician)
Henry Phipps John Woodward (4 April 1898 – 3 April 1966) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for a single term between 1944 and 1947. He was a member of the Labor Party. Early life Woodward was born in Brent Knoll in Somerset, England and was the son of a General dealer (Rag and bone man). He was educated to elementary level in England and initially worked with his father but later became a produce agent and farmer in East Brent. Woodward migrated to Australia in 1922 and was a farm produce agent and company director. He sat in parliament as a member of the Labor Party but joined the Liberal Party after leaving office. State Parliament Woodward entered parliament as the Labor member for Lane Cove after he won the seat at 1944 state election. Harry Page Woodward
Henry Page Woodward (16 May 1858 – 8 February 1917), also known as Harry Page Woodward, was an English-born Australian geologist, mining engineer and public servant. He was a fellow of the Geological Society of London, the Royal Geographical Society and the Imperial Institute, as well as a justice of the peace of the then Colony of Western Australia. Woodward was born in Norwich, Norfolk, England, the eldest son of geologist Henry Woodward, and died in West Perth, Western Australia. In his ''Annual General Report of the Government Geologist, 1890'' he was the first to note the potential of the Pilbara iron ore reserves: This is essentially an iron ore country. There is enough iron ore to supply the whole world, should the present sources be worked out. The report was ignored and it wasn't till 1961 that Lang Hancock could capitalise on his re-discovery and laws that enabled his profitable exploitation of the iron ore.
