Henry Tichborne, 7th Baronet
Henry Tichborne (6 September 1756 – 14 June 1821) was the 7th Baronet Tichborne of Tichborne in Hampshire. He was born in 1756, the son of Sir Henry Tichborne, the 6th Baronet, and Mary ''née'' Blount. On 8 March 1778 he married Elizabeth Lucy Plowden (1758–1829), the eldest daughter of Edmund Plowden of Plowden Hall in Plowden in Shropshire. The Plowdens, like the Tichborne's, were an old Catholic family. The couple had seven sons and a daughter. Their sons included: Sir Henry Joseph Tichborne, the 8th Baronet Tichborne (1779–1845); Sir Edward Doughty, the 9th Baronet (1782–1853), and Sir James Francis Doughty-Tichborne, the 10th Baronet Tichborne (1784–1862). Built by his father the 6th Baronet in 1760, in 1789 Tichborne sold the family estate of Frimley Manor to James Lawrell the elder for £20,000. Sir Henry Tichborne (1756 – 1821)
Sir Henry Tichborne Privy Council of Ireland, PC (Ire) (1581–1667) was an English soldier and politician. He excelled at the Siege of Drogheda (1641), Siege of Drogheda during the Irish Rebellion of 1641. He governed Ireland as one of the two Lord Justices (Ireland), Lord Justices from 1642 to 1644. In 1647, he fought under Michael Jones (soldier), Michael Jones against the Irish Catholic Confederates in the Battle of Dungan's Hill. He was given the Beaulieu House and Gardens, Co. Louth, Beaulieu Manor by Oliver Cromwell, Cromwell and its possession was confirmed to him at the Restoration of Charles II, Restoration. Louis Henri Joseph de Bourbon (13 April 1756 – 30 August 1830) was the Prince of Condé from 1818 to his death. He was the brother-in-law of Philippe Égalité and nephew of Victoire de Rohan. A baronet ( or ; abbreviated Bart or Bt) or the female equivalent, a baronetess (, , or ; abbreviation Btss), is the holder of a baronetcy, a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown. Tichborne Dole
The Tichborne Dole is a traditional English festival of charity which is held in the village of Tichborne, Hampshire, during the Feast of the Annunciation. The festival is centered on the handing out of donations of flour, which have been blessed by the local parish priest, from the front of Tichborne House. The festival dates back to the 12th century (circa 1150) and was started by Lady Mabella Tichborne who, on her death bed, instructed that a donation of farm produce be made to the poor each year. Tichborne Case
The Tichborne case was a legal ''cause célèbre'' that captivated Victorian England in the 1860s and 1870s. It concerned the claims by a man sometimes referred to as Thomas Castro or as Arthur Orton, but usually termed "the Claimant", to be the missing heir to the Tichborne baronetcy. He failed to convince the courts, was convicted of perjury and served a long prison sentence. Roger Tichborne, heir to the family's title and fortunes, was presumed to have died in a shipwreck in 1854 at age 25. His mother clung to a belief that he might have survived, and after hearing rumours that he had made his way to Australia, she advertised extensively in Australian newspapers, offering a reward for information. In 1866, a Wagga Wagga butcher known as Thomas Castro came forward claiming to be Roger Tichborne. Although his manners and bearing were unrefined, he gathered support and travelled to England.
