Henry Savile (died 1558)
Sir Henry Savile (1498/99 – 20 April 1558), of Thornhill, Tankersley, and Elland, Yorkshire, was an English politician. He was the eldest and only son of Sir John Savile of Thornhill Hall and Tankersley. He succeeded his father in 1505 and was knighted in 1533. He was a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the West Riding of Yorkshire from 1528 to his death, except for a period from 1530 to 1534 when he was removed from the bench. He was appointed High Sheriff of Yorkshire for 1537–38 and 1541–42. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Yorkshire in 1539. Henry Savile (Bible Translator)
Sir Henry Savile (30 November 154919 February 1622) was an English scholar and mathematician, Warden of Merton College, Oxford, and Provost of Eton. He endowed the Savilian chairs of Astronomy and of Geometry at Oxford University, and was one of the scholars who translated the New Testament from Greek into English. He was a Member of the Parliament of England for Bossiney in Cornwall in 1589, and Dunwich in Suffolk in 1593. Life He was the son of Henry Savile of Over Bradley, Stainland, near Halifax, West Yorkshire, England, a member of an old county family, the Saviles of Methley, and of his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Robert Ramsden. Sir Henry Savile, 1st Baronet (1579 – 23 June 1632) was an English politician. Life The eldest son of Sir John Savile, he matriculated at Merton College, Oxford, on 4 February 1584, but left without a degree, entering the Middle Temple in 1593. He was knighted at the coronation of James I, on 23 July 1603, and created a baronet on 29 June 1611. Savile represented Aldborough in parliament from 1604 to 1611, and again in 1614. Before 1627 he became vice-president of the Council of the North, serving under Thomas Wentworth.
