Henry Powell (c. 1600–1658), was an early English settler, captain, and planter on the Barbados Colony. Little is known about Captain Henry Powell, brother to Captain John Powell and uncle of Governor John Powell Junior, who became a planter and leading player in the early colonization of the island of Barbados in the mid-17 century. Powell in Barbados In 1625, whilst returning from Brazil, his brother, Captain John Powell briefly landed on the leeward coast of a new uninhabited island of ‘Barbadoes’ and in traditional manner claimed it in the name of his monarch King James I of England and James VI of Scotland. Henry Watson Powell
General Henry Watson Powell (1733 – 14 July 1814) was a British officer during the Seven Years' War and American Revolutionary War. Powell was born in England in 1733. He commissioned as a Lieutenant on 10 March 1753, with the 46th Regiment of Foot. He was promoted to captain on 2 September 1756 and given command of the 2nd battalion, 11th Regiment of Foot. That unit was renamed the 64th Regiment of Foot and served in the Seven Years' War in the French West Indies in 1759. Captain Powell also deployed with his regiment to the Americas in 1768. On 2 June 1770, Powell was promoted to major in the 38th Regiment of Foot. A year later, on 23 July 1771, Powell was promoted to lieutenant colonel and given command of the 53rd Regiment of Foot. In 1776, Powell came to Canada with the 53rd Regiment of Foot. On 10 June 1776, Sir Guy Carleton appointed Powell as a brigadier-general and placed him in command of the 2nd Brigade. Henry Powell (Wisconsin Politician)
Henry Powell (December 7, 1838 – April 9, 1902) was an American politician. Born in Worcester, England, he moved to Newport, Wisconsin Territory in 1845 and then Mazomanie, Wisconsin in 1865. He served in the 1st Wisconsin Heavy Artillery Regiment during the American Civil War. He served as justice of the peace, in town government, and on the Dane County, Wisconsin Board of Supervisors and the chairman of the board. Henry Absalom Powell
Henry Absalom Powell (April 6, 1855 – April 15, 1930) was a Canadian lawyer and politician. Born in Richibucto, New Brunswick, the son of Edmund Powell, Powell was educated at Kent County Grammar School and at Mount Allison University where he graduated in 1875. He was called to the Bar of New Brunswick in 1880 and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1894. Powell practised law in Sackville and Saint John. He was also professor of law at King's College in Windsor, Nova Scotia. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the general elections of 1890, but resigned after the election was protested. He was re-elected, and again, in 1891, after being unseated. He was re-elected in 1892 and resigned in August 1895 when he was elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the electoral district of Westmorland.
