Henry Pettit Sweetland
Henry Pettit Sweetland (July 29, 1827 - 1877) was an American politician, California pioneer, and town founder. He arrived in California in 1849. Sweetland and his brothers settled in the area that later bore their name, Sweetland, California, 1850; he ran a trading post in the settlement in 1852. He was a member of the California State Assembly The California State Assembly is the lower house of the California State Legislature, the upper house being the California State Senate. Sweetland is a former settlement in Nevada County, California. Located approximately east of Marysville, It is situated at an elevation of above sea level. History The settlement was named after the Sweetland brothers, including former California State Assemblyman, Henry Pettit Sweetland, who settled here in 1850, and in 1852, ran a trading post in the area.
