Henry Penruddocke Wyndham
Henry Penruddocke Wyndham (1736–1819) MP JP FSA FRS, was a British Whig Member of Parliament, topographer and author. Background Wyndham was born on 4 June 1736, the eldest surviving son of Henry Wyndham of St Edmund's College, Salisbury, and his wife Arundel Penruddocke, daughter of Thomas Penruddocke of Compton Chamberlayne. Colonel Wadham Wyndham was his younger brother and the distinguished judge Sir Wadham Wyndham was his great-great-grandfather. He was educated at Eton and Wadham College, Oxford, and was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries on 6 February 1777 and a fellow of the Royal Society on 9 January 1783. Politics The Wyndhams of the College held great influence in Salisbury, and Wyndham was elected a freeman of the city on 15 March 1761, was Mayor of Salisbury in 1770–1, and High Sheriff of Wiltshire in 1772. Sir William à Court, 1st Baronet
Sir William Pierce Ashe à Court, 1st Baronet (c. 1747 – 22 July 1817) was a British soldier and Member of Parliament (MP). À Court was the son of General William Ashe-à Court and Anne Vernon. He represented Heytesbury in the House of Commons from 1781 to 1790 and again from 1806 to 1807. In 1795 he was created a Baronet, of Heytesbury in the County of Wiltshire. He was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel of the Wiltshire Militia in 1797 and High Sheriff of Wiltshire for 1812. À Court married, firstly, Catherine Bradford, daughter of John Bradford, in 1769. In 1777 Catherine A'Court died in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire; her memorial plaque in Cheltenham's parish church suggests this was due to her having been poisoned with arsenic by a servant. Wadham Wyndham (MP)
Wadham Penruddock Wyndham (16 October 1773 – 23 October 1843) was a British Member of Parliament. The eldest surviving son of Henry Penruddocke Wyndham of St Edmund's College, Salisbury, he was educated at Lord Weymouth's Grammar School, Warminster, from 1787 to 1789 and at Eton College in 1793. He was a cornet in the Wiltshire Yeomanry in 1794, a captain in the Wiltshire Militia in 1796, and major in 1805. Wyndham represented Salisbury in Parliament from 1818 until unseated on 6 May 1833, then again from 1835 until his death in 1843 aged 70. He was Mayor of Wilton from 1825 to 1826. Wadham Wyndham succeeded his father in 1819. On 1 March 1821 he was married to Anne Eliza, daughter of Sir John Slade, 1st Baronet, but they had no children. St Edmund's Church, Salisbury
Salisbury Arts Centre is a venue for theatre, music, dance, comedy, family shows, films, exhibitions, and workshops in Salisbury, Wiltshire, United Kingdom. Joseph Mallord William Turner (23 April 177519 December 1851), known in his time as William Turner, was an English Romantic painter, printmaker and watercolourist. He is known for his expressive colouring, imaginative landscapes and turbulent, often violent marine paintings. He left behind more than 550 oil paintings, 2,000 watercolours, and 30,000 works on paper. He was championed by the leading English art critic John Ruskin from 1840, and is today regarded as having elevated landscape painting to an eminence rivalling history painting. Turner was born in Maiden Lane, Covent Garden, London, to a modest lower-middle-class family. George Bubb Dodington
George Bubb Dodington, 1st Baron Melcombe (1691 – 28 July 1762) was an English Whig politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1715 to 1761. Christened George Bubb, he was the eldest son of Jeremiah Bubb of Foy, Herefordshire and his wife Mary Dodington, daughter of John Dodington of Dodington, Somerset. His father died in 1696 and he was taken under the care of his uncle George Dodington. He was educated at Winchester College in 1703 and matriculated at Exeter College, Oxford on 10 July 1707 aged 16. He was admitted at Lincoln's Inn in 1711 and undertook a Grand Tour from 1711 to 1713. Bubb was returned as Member of Parliament for Winchelsea at the 1715 British general election.
