Henry Meyer (1840–1925) was a poet originally from Brush Valley, (Centre County), Pennsylvania. His native language was Pennsylvania Dutch, and although he learned English in school, he wrote his poetry in "Dutch". His original career was as a wheelwright, but he lost an arm near Spottsylvania during the American Civil War. Henry Albert Meyer (March 23, 1894 – March 25, 1968) of Indiana, was a philatelist who created notable stamp and postal history collections, and wrote and co-authored a number of philatelic books. Collecting interests Meyer was famous for a number of collections he formed, especially for his Ohio River steamboat covers. his Confederate States of America postal history collection, and his Hawaii collection. Philatelic literature Based on his study of river and steamboat history, he wrote ''Domestic Waterway Mail Markings'' in 1951. Along with Rear Admiral Frederic R. Harris and others, he co-authored ''Hawaii, Its Stamps and Postal History'', which was published in 1948. Henry Cord Meyer (1912 – 2001) was an American historian specializing in modern European and Central European history. He was an expert on the politics and economics of airships in the post-World War I period (1920-1938). Biography The only child of German immigrants Henry H. and Sophie (née Abhmann) Meyer, Henry Cord Meyer was born on 12 February 1913 in Chicago, Illinois. After his father died in 1920, Meyer and his mother moved first to Eldora, Colorado; Meyer grew up in Colorado Springs. Meyer earned his B.A. degree at the University of Colorado in 1935; he spent one year as a student at the Konsular Academy in Vienna (1935-1936) before continuing his studies in the United States, receiving his master's degree at the University of Iowa (1937), and his PhD from Yale University in 1941. Henry Meyer (12 June 1780 - 28 May 1847) was an English portrait painter, more known as a stipple and mezzotint engraver. Meyer was born John Meyer in London - a son of John Meyer and Anna Torade Hoppner who married at St James Westminster 22 December 1767. Contrary to other accounts Henry Meyer's father was a hairdresser and not an engraver. Joseph Farington recorded that Henry Meyer was a nephew of John Hoppner, referring to him as 'Mier' (8 February 1810), and in the obituary of Meyer in Gentleman's Magazine (1847 ii 665). Henry Walter Maier (February 7, 1918 – July 17, 1994) was an American politician and the longest-serving mayor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, holding office from 1960 to 1988. A Democrat, Maier was a powerful and controversial figure, presiding over an era of economic and political turbulence for the city of Milwaukee. Early life Maier was born Henry Walter David Nelke in Dayton, Ohio. After his father died, he moved with his mother to Springfield, Ohio to live with his grandparents.
