Henry Lucien De Vries
Henry Lucien de Vries (12 December 1909 – 6 April 1987) was a Surinamese politician and entrepreneur. De Vries was born in Paramaribo. He studied economics at the Netherlands School of Economics and law at the University of Amsterdam. He was also trained as an officer at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. In 1946, he joined De Surinaamsche Bank, where he became a member of the management board. He served as the Chairman of the Estates of Suriname from 1947 to 1949. Raymond Pos was initially nominated as Governor of Suriname, however he died on 5 November 1964. De Vries was Governor of Suriname from 1965 to 1968. ''Parlement & Politiek''. Raymond Pos
Raymond Henri Pos (9 March 1910 – 5 November 1964) was a Surinamese diplomat and lawyer. He was the first Minister Plenipotentiary of Suriname from 29 December 1954 until 1 August 1963. Subsequently, he was appointed Dutch Ambassador of Cuba. Pos played a major role in the creation of the 1954 Charter for the Kingdom of the Netherlands which established the political relationship between the Netherlands and its former colonies. Biography Pos was born on 9 March 1910 in a Jewish family who had been living in Suriname for generations. He left Suriname for the Netherlands to study at the grammar school in Alkmaar and studied law at Leiden University. He was promoted in 1939 for his thesis "Evenredige vertegenwoordiging en volksvertegenwoordiging" ("Proportional representation and people's representation"). Erwin De Vries
Erwin de Vries (21 December 1929 – 31 January 2018) was a Surinamese painter and sculptor. De Vries was born in Paramaribo, and is the half-brother of Henry Lucien de Vries, who served as governor of Suriname from 1965 until 1967. Wim Bos Verschuur, his art teacher, convinced his parents to sent him to the Netherlands to further his education. He studied at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague and at the Rijksacademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam. De Vries's first exhibition was in 1948 in Paramaribo. His work has since been displayed at the Stedelijk Museum and the Kunsthal in Rotterdam. He is the designer of the in Amsterdam. Johan Ferrier
Johan Henri Eliza Ferrier (12 May 1910 – 4 January 2010) was a Surinamese politician who served as the 1st president of Suriname from 1975 to 1980. He was also the country's last governor-general before independence, serving from 1968 to 1975, before becoming the first president upon independence from the Netherlands in 1975. He was named the twentieth century's most important politician in Suriname in 1999. Early life Ferrier was born in 1910 in Suriname's largest city and capital, Paramaribo. He trained as a teacher. In 1946 he assisted in the establishment of the country's National Party, while Suriname was a colony of the Netherlands.
