Henry Lawrence (President Of The Council)
Henry Lawrence (1600–1664) was an English Puritan statesman. He graduated from Emmanuel College, Cambridge with an M.A. in 1627. He was commissioner of plantations in 1648, and a commissioner for Ireland in 1652. He served as an M.P. Hertfordshire and Carnarvonshire. He was appointed Keeper of the Library at St. James's House, in 1653. He was Lord President of the Council of State (England), Council of State from 1654 until 1659. He also published three pamphlets between 1646 and 1649 on the doctrine of baptism. Biography Lawrence, born in 1600, was the eldest son of Sir John Lawrence, (died 1604), of St. Ives, Huntingdonshire, by his marriage, on 7 March 1599, with Elizabeth, only daughter and heiress of Ralph Waller of Clerkenwell, Middlesex, fourth son of Robert Waller of Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. Brigadier General Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence, (28 June 1806 – 4 July 1857) was a British military officer, surveyor, administrator and statesman in Company rule in India, British India. He is best known for leading a group of administrators in the Punjab affectionately known as Henry Lawrence's "Young Men", as the founder of the Lawrence Military Asylums and for his death at the Siege of Lucknow during the Indian Rebellion of 1857. Henry Arnold Lawrence (17 March 1848 – 18 April 1902) was a rugby union forward who played club rugby for Richmond F.C. and international rugby for England. He was the third captain of the England rugby team. Personal life Lawrence was born at Lahore in 1848, the second son of John Lawrence, 1st Baron Lawrence, and his wife Harriette Katherine (née Hamilton). His father was Viceroy of India between 1864 and 1869. Lawrence was educated at Wellington College, Berkshire, before matriculating to Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1866. He was a Director of the London office of the Ottoman Bank. He spent his later life in Box, Gloucestershire, where he died on 18 April 1902, aged 54. Sir Henry Staveley Lawrence (20 October 1870 – 29 June 1949) was a British civil servant and colonial administrator. He was the Acting governor of Bombay during the British Raj from 20 March 1926 to 8 December 1928.
