Henry Kotelawala
Sir Don Henry Kotelawala was a Ceylonese politician. He was an elected member of the Legislative Council of Ceylon and State Council of Ceylon from the Uva and Badulla for 28 years. Henry was the son of D. C. Kotelawala (1886–?) from Bandaragama and Sudu Menike Taldena Wijekoon. His father established himself as a businessman in the transportation sector in the Uva Province and was appointed Muhandiram by the British colonial administration. Henry continued his father's business ventures and in 1921 was elected to the Legislative Council representing the Uva Province. In 1931 the Donoughmore Constitution replaced the Legislative Council with the State Council of Ceylon, to which Henry was subsequently elected. He was appointed a Gate Mudaliyar and a Justice of the Peace by the Governor of Ceylon for his services including services rendered during the 1915 riots. Oliver Weerasinghe
Oliver Weerasinghe, OBE, FRIBA (29 September 1907 – 20 January 1980) was a Sri Lankan architect and diplomat. He was Sri Lanka's first City Planner and for this reason, he is referred to as the "Father of Sri Lanka's Town Planning". He is a former Ambassador to the United States. Weerasinghe was educated at the Royal College Colombo and went on to study architecture at the University of Liverpool under Sir Patrick Abercrombie. Later he became a Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and a Fellow of the Royal Town Planning Institute. He was a founding President of the Ceylon Institute of Architects. He gained wide recognition when he designed the "Lake House Building", the head office of the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon, owned by press baron D. R. Wijewardena. Buttala Electoral District
Buttala electoral district was an electoral district of Sri Lanka between August 1947 and March 1960. The district was named after the town of Buttala in Moneragala District, Uva Province. The 1978 Constitution of Sri Lanka introduced the proportional representation electoral system for electing members of Parliament. The existing 160 mainly single-member electoral districts were replaced with 22 multi-member electoral districts. Buttala electoral district is now represented by the Monaragala multi-member electoral district. Gladwin Kotelawala
Gladwin Conrad Hermon Kotelawala, Order of the British Empire, MBE (18 April 1914 – ?) was a Ceylonese (Sri Lankan) businessmen and a former Member of Parliament. Gladwin Kotelawala was the son of Sir Henry Kotelawala, a leading colonial-era legislator. He initially studied at Royal College, Colombo, before his father transferred him to Trinity College, Kandy. Kotelawala ran away to India before completing his studies, after his family located him and brought him back home he ran away again this time to Singapore, where he resisted all attempts to repatriate him. Kotelawala's move to British Malaya, Malaya allowed him to establish a successful business and become a prominent member of the Ceylonese community there. John Kotelawala
General Sir John Lionel Kotelawala ( si, ශ්රිමත් ජෝන් ලයනල් කොතලාවල; 4 April 1897 – 2 October 1980) was a Sri Lankan statesman, who served as the 3rd Prime Minister of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) from 1953 to 1956. Born to a wealthy landholding and mining family, Kotelawala had a difficult childhood with the suicide of his father and financial difficulties that followed. He was educated at Royal College, Colombo and Christ's College, Cambridge before returning to become a planter and run the family estates and mines. Kotelawala joined the Ceylon Defense Force as an volunteer officer in 1922.
