Henry Johnson (Wisconsin Treasurer)
Henry Johnson (December 2, 1854March 5, 1941) was a Danish Americans, Danish American immigrant, farmer, logger, businessman, and Republican Party (United States), Republican politician. He was the 18th State Treasurer of Wisconsin, serving ten years from 1913 to 1923, and earlier served six years as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly, representing Oconto County, Wisconsin, Oconto County. Biography Johnson was born at Amendrup near Præstø, Denmark, on December 2, 1854. In 1873 he moved to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, where he remained until 1879. He then bought land in the town of How, Wisconsin, to which he moved and engaged in farming and logging. He also operated a warehouse and real estate business in the nearby village of Suring, Wisconsin, Suring. He was the chairman of the city council, town board and City Treasurer, town treasurer for a number of years. He married Augusta Ernestina Dieck (1858–1924) on June 18, 1879. Oshkosh, Wisconsin
Oshkosh is a city in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, of which it is the county seat. The city had a population of 66,816 in 2020, making it the ninth-largest city in Wisconsin. It is also adjacent to the Town of Oshkosh. History Oshkosh was named for Menominee Chief Oshkosh, whose name meant "claw" (cf. Ojibwe ''oshkanzh'', "the claw"). Although the fur trade attracted the first European settlers to the area as early as 1818, it never became a major player in the fur trade. The 1820s mining boom in southwest Wisconsin along with the opening of the Erie Canal shifted commercial activity away from the Fox River Valley and Green Bay. Soon after 1830, much of the trade moved west, as there had been over-trapping in the region.
