Henry Hogan
Henry Hogan (March 8, 1840 – April 20, 1916) was a First Sergeant in the United States Army during the Black Hills War. He is noted as one of only nineteen individuals to receive the Medal of Honor twice. Biography Henry Hogan was born in County Clare, Ireland. He moved to the United States, enlisted into the United States Army, and was assigned to Company G, in the 5th Infantry Regiment (United States), 5th United States Infantry Regiment, under the command of Colonel Nelson A. Miles. On October 21, 1876, Hogan fought at the Battle of Cedar Creek (1876), Battle of Cedar Creek, in Montana Territory against Lakota people, Lakota warriors under the leadership of Native American Chief Sitting Bull. For his actions in this engagement, he would receive his first Medal of Honor. ''Hin-mah-too-yah-lat-kekt'' (or ''Hinmatóowyalahtq̓it'' in Americanist orthography), popularly known as Chief Joseph, Young Joseph, or Joseph the Younger (March 3, 1840 – September 21, 1904), was a leader of the Wal-lam-wat-kain (Wallowa) band of Nez Perce, a Native American tribe of the interior Pacific Northwest region of the United States, in the latter half of the 19th century. He succeeded his father Tuekakas (Chief Joseph the Elder) in the early 1870s. The United States Army Center of Military History (CMH) is a directorate within the United States Army Training and Doctrine Command. The Institute of Heraldry remains within the Office of the Administrative Assistant to the Secretary of the Army.
