Henry Higgins (bullfighter)
Henry Higgins (1944 – 1978) was an English matador, the most senior level of bullfighter, who was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1944. He died as a result of a hang-gliding accident, while demonstrating it by jumping off a 200 ft high hill in 1978. He was educated at King Williams College in the Isle of Man. Career His professional, or 'ring' name was "Cañadas", meaning "the canyons". He took this name to sound more Spanish, but the Spanish called him "El Inglés", "The Englishman". He passed his "alternativa" exam in 1970, becoming a fully fledged matador. A bullfighter (or matador) is a performer in the activity of bullfighting. ''Torero'' () or ''toureiro'' (), both from Latin ''taurarius'', are the Spanish and Portuguese words for bullfighter and describe all the performers in the activity of bullfighting as practised in Spain, Portugal, Mexico, Peru, France, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela and other countries influenced by Portuguese and Spanish culture. The main performer and leader of the entourage in a bullfight, and who finally kills the bull, is addressed as ''maestro'' (master), or with the formal title ''matador de toros'' (killer of bulls). King Williams College
King William's College (nicknamed KWC or King Bill's; gv, Colleish Ree Illiam) is an independent school for pupils aged 3 to 18, located near Castletown on the Isle of Man. It is a member of the International Baccalaureate and Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference organisations. The College operates at two sites in or near Castletown: a main senior school campus on the shore of Castletown Bay, and a prep school (called The Buchan School) in the Westhill part of Castletown, two miles from the main campus. Brian Epstein
Brian Samuel Epstein (; 19 September 1934 – 27 August 1967) was a British music entrepreneur who managed the Beatles from 1962 until his death in 1967. Epstein was born into a family of successful retailers in Liverpool, who put him in charge of their music shop, where he displayed a gift for talent-spotting. He first met the Beatles in 1961 at a lunchtime concert at Liverpool's Cavern Club. Although he had no experience of artist management, Epstein put them under contract and insisted that they abandon their scruff-image in favour of a new clean-cut style. He also attempted to get the Beatles a recording contract, eventually securing a deal with EMI's Parlophone label. Within months, the Beatles were international stars. Frank Evans (bullfighter)
Francis "Frank" Evans (born 18 August 1942) is a British-born matador, the most senior form of bullfighter, known as "El Inglés" (The Englishman.) He is reputed to be the only British bullfighter currently working professionally. He now holds Spanish citizenship. Early career The son of a butcher, Evans had started out with ambitions to be a rugby league professional. He was first interested in bullfighting on hearing his father's stories of watching fights when going into Spain from Gibraltar during World War II. In 1963, aged 19, on his first trip abroad (to attend a wedding in Spain) he witnessed his first bullfight at the Corpus Christi festival in Granada. A subsequent reading of the autobiography of Vincent Hitchcock, the first professional British bullfighter, persuaded him that it was possible for a Briton to train as a bullfighter.
